General Discussion / Re: Apple Cider Vinegar-Unfiltered
« on: July 21, 2010, 01:00:59 PM »
I didn't see the Oprah show but recently read somewhere (Richard Bernstein, I think) else that Apple Cider Vinegar would help lower fasting blood sugar.  It recommended 2 Tbsp.  I tried drinking that much the other morning and prayed it wouldn't work because it tasted so bad.  It did nothing to alter my blood sugar.  Apple Cider Vinegar has long been touted as a cure for everything.  I suppose it can't hurt but I'd recommend following Doug's advice, Eat a pickel.  It would sure taste better

Welcome Diane
Being a caregiver is hard work and my hat is off to you.  I'm new here, too and it seems to be a very supportive place.  Good Luck and be sure to check in now and than

Congrats Izze!!!!!!!!!!   It really does make a difference when you have a visual.  When I've lost only a pound or two and feel down about it I think about stuffing a couple of pounds of butter under my clothes and realize that it's pretty significant.  I take a lot of supplements too, hoping they aren't contributing too many carbs.  I get the pure ones from my naturopath.  I was wondering if anyone knows anything about adding Chicory Root Extract or Inulin would it be ok as an extra fiber source
Keep up the great work.  It's inspirational

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.  I'm doing well with following the plan and remain excited about staying with it.  Can't wait to go grocery shopping tomorrow, a task I usually dread.
Again, Thanks

Doug - I really liked your list of practical snacks to keep on hand in the fridge
Thanks for teaching us how to do this

I've been buying diet books, filling the fridge with recommended stuff, hating it, throwing it out and buying another book for the past six months.  My weight continues to increase.  My blood sugar was in the prediabetic stage at 112 last week.  Yesterday I went to Barnes and Nobel and your book jumped out at me.  I love its cheerful cover and large print.  I read it cover to cover, packed my little lunch box with protein and today I'm on my way.  I was so excited last night I couldn't fall asleep.  I know this is a plan I can follow. I weigh 170 pounds and would like to get down to 130.
