General Discussion / Re: Hello Again.......
« on: March 20, 2016, 11:01:43 AM »
Hi Morgan, I feel for you and understand where you are coming from. The good thing is that you are here again and reaching out.  Your chain idea is fantastic - very motivational. I am back too after dropping off the wagon and giving in to my stress eating! It was easier for me to eat one hot buttered roll, then two and I suddenly found myself medicating with high carb/low nutritional foods.  It is time to take care of us - we can do this because this way of eating works, if we work it. One handy tip I just started doing is cutting up my veggies and storing them in Mason jars with lids in the frig. They stay fresher longer and are grab-and-go. I even make my salads in jars - each day goes in a Mason jar! I just put dressing in the bottom then layer the heavier stuff on up to the lighter things and seal with a lid. They keep 5 to 7 days! Prepare to conquer!

i also have a FitBit - love that thing - and I walk to Leslie Sansone's walk DVDs.  I love being able to walk and exercise right in my home.

I want this now, but don't even have 1/3 of the ingredients - boohoo. They are fixing the main road in front of my house so I have to take a 30 minute detour to get to the nearest town...I'll get my keys.

I'll certainly give this a whirl. I loved the ones I baked in the oven - so much flavor!

General Questions / Re: Mixer Question

I love my KitchenAid mixer and have had it for well over 12 years. I bought one for my daughter at Kohl's and used my 30% off coupon!

We call pork 'sow' in my neck of the woods too. I'll have to try adding pork and/or veggies to the venison for moisture because the beef hamburger still left the meatloaf a little dryer than I prefer.

So excited! I did a one week weigh-in and I am down 10.2 pounds! I had to get my calendar out, where I wrote my original weight down one week ago, and get back on the scale for a re-weigh! I did a sneak midweek weigh-in to see if this was really working, but the total weight loss was a BIG surprise. I asked hubby to not buy chocolates for Valentine's Day, so instead he gave me the money to buy ... my FTS cookbooks! Already have them downloaded.

Feeling great, hopeful, and full of joy because I don't have to do any obsessive point counting. Losing 10 pounds in ONE week is more than I ever lost in 6 weeks with WWs.  No groups to trudge out to at night, no embarrassing weigh-ins (which always brought on anxiety), no weekly payments for being in an overweight group ~ need I say more? Instead, I am putting $5 in my 'cruise fund' for every pound I lose!

I can't thank you, Doug, enough for sharing this 'secret' to weight loss. I say 'secret' because my doctor several years ago told me to 'cut back' on carbs, eat more protein and fresh veggies. I thought he just meant 'sugar'. He didn't tell me that 'carbs' were rampant in so many of the foods I was filling up on. Fat to Skinny has helped me with putting the puzzle pieces together and understanding how to take control.  Up until getting FTS, I always had a pack of raisins on me as my 'healthy snack' - typing this while slapping myself on the forehead!

Thanks Doug!  Those carbs are sneaky - didn't realize Sugar Free Cool Whip is so low carb unfriendly.  Thanks so much for doing a remake of this recipe for me. ~ Cheers

Ask Umpa / 5 minute/4 ingredient No Bake Cheescake
« on: February 14, 2015, 01:15:01 PM »
Hi Umpa,
I have a recipe that I want to run by you for tweaking to keep within a reasonable net carb count, if that is even possible! Someone posted it on Facebook and I have made it several times before FTS! I am not sure if it will even turn out using the alternative condensed milk recipe, but thought I would try it.
===
Ingredients:
1 can of sweetened condensed milk (14/oz)  (Note: I am going to make 2 batches of Doug's condensed milk recipe and use that to make 14 oz.)
1 8 ounce tub of cool whip (sugar free variety)
1/3 cup of lemon or lime juice
1 8 ounce package of cream cheese

Directions:
Leave cream cheese out for a couple of hours to get to room temperature. The cream cheese should be soft and smooth (this is important or recipe will be lumpy). Once cream cheese is softened put it in a mixing bowl and add sweetened condensed milk and cool whip. Mix until well blended and smooth.  Lastly, add lemon or lime juice and mix on low speed about 2 minutes. Pour ingredients into mini muffin pans (mine were silicone). Refrigerate for 1-1/2 hours. Served chilled. (I put mine in the freezer although the original recipe never mentioned that.)

I would appreciate your thoughts and tweaks on this. Thank you

I am so happy for you! You are doing fantastic. I am just shy of a week into this way of life and am truly loving it. Grocery shopping is so much easier because I pass up most of the inner aisles! Doug's book really explained things in ways that I could easily understand and implement!

Umpa, Do you mean sow like pork? Sorry to be so dense! Our son-in-law gave us some ground venison which is very, very dry. I marinated some venison loin meat and beef pieces on Wednesday to make jerky  (with the FTS recipe) so today I am dehydrating it. I'm putting 1/2 in my fake NuWave (it's called a Big Boss) and 1/2 in my dehydrator to see which comes out the best. I got the Big Boss at a yard sale for $4 - it had never even been opened! I love roasting veggies in it! I'll let you know which dehydrating method we like best.

Doug, If you use venison for the meatballs, do you have to add fat? I made meatloaf with 2 pounds venison and 1 pound of ground beef. It turned out pretty good. Before FTS I used bread crumbs in it, but now used crushed pork rinds - hubby didn't even notice. I'll have to give these meatballs a whirl.
