Booze! / What about Wine?
« on: March 05, 2010, 03:31:08 PM »
Hi Doug,
I received your book 2 weeks ago and am feeling GREAT!  Boy what a difference, my head is clearer, I'm not hungry all the time, I have more energy and oh yeah, my jeans are very comfortable fitting now. THANK YOU

I am curious to know what wine has the least amount of sugar as I do enjoy a glass or two of wine at night.

I read in your book about beer and mixed drinks but couldn't find any info on wine.

I look forward to hearing from you.

On Sept. 10, I began to eat according to your plan.  It was fairly easy to stick to the plan, since I didn't get as hungry as I used to when I would be on a "diet".

I have now, on December 8, lost 30 pounds and am keeping my blood sugar level below 100 with no medication.  At my last lab visit to my doctor, my HBa1c was 6.2 and my cholesterol levels were all great.  I am very pleased at how much better I feel (and look.)  Sincerely,  Clarine G. Best

Dear Doug,

I am proud to be able to contribute in a small way to your efforts to enlighten people as to the true cause of weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, high-cholesterol and that thing called “metabolic syndrome”.  You should have been a doctor.  In many ways what you’re doing now will make a bigger impact on the country’s health than anything a doctor could dream of accomplishing.  I am so so pleased to have found a book that coincides with everything I have been telling my patients for years.  Now I can talk briefly with patients and hand them a book knowing that what is put forth in the text is everything I believe and transcends the stalled stale conversation of low carbs and exercise.  This is a seminal work that awakens us to what is all around us but yet invisible.  Like water to a fish we have been unable to see what has been in front of us all the time.  Water? What water I don’t see any water!  Sugar? What sugar? I don’t see any sugar! Unfortunately our bodies do see all the sugar and respond with obesity and “metabolic syndrome”.  This book is a must read for anyone interested in taking their health to the next level.

Sincerely yours,

Dr Paul Cump, D.O.

My son and I began the Fat to Skinny eating plan and I went down three jean sizes (12 (almost a 14) to a large 6) in just three months!   Guess what? I love the new skinny me and all the compliments constantly coming my way! My knees are rejoicing, no longer giving me grief and I feel so much younger and nimble! There is a skip in my step that I didn't even realize was missing. I am a firm believer and everywhere I go I share the eating plan that has given me back a more youthful experience and great enjoyment.  Diana L. Flegal PA

Here’s my story; All my life,  I've struggled with my weight. I've been big since I was young but BLEW UP in Junior High. My parents began arguing allot and the house was full of tension. The only thing that made me happy and feel good was food. By age 13 food became my drug of choice. When I was 26 I met a wonderful man and became pregnant but sadly miscarried. The doctor said my weight was a big factor in my miscarriage. This terrible loss convinced me I needed to start being serious about losing weight. At 4'11" I was 250 pounds.  I've felt trapped but just couldn't figure out how to lose the weight. Then I learned about your book and read it.  Doug, I just wanted to say  thank you for writing a great book, you made it so simple!  I'm now 28 and weigh 160 pounds. I feel great! I feel like a new woman. My doctor is so excited and I am too. My boyfriend thinks I'm super sexy so now; hopefully soon we will have that baby!  I am so grateful, my life is so different now, FAT TO SKINNY released me from my trap. Thank You So Much Again.  Andrea Patenaude- NH

was really sucking wind and gaining weight Doug. Up to about 260 and no end in sight till I read your book. I have  only been with the program a few days and I can already feel the difference.

Hell yes I miss that sugar and fight the feeling but my vision has cleared up alot and also I am beginning to feel the fat parts of my appendages shrinking. Yep I can actually feel it. Much more vascular already.

I am gonna knock this lard off once and for all Doug thanks to your by the numbers approach to what has been a mystery up till now. You know in the Marine Corps we do everything by the numbers due to lack of brain activity in your standard issue Marine. That's part of the allure of your system. Sugar...hell no! If it has no carbs...get after it......OOOOOrah! Simple....

Finest kind

Thanks Doug

It was Christmas day 2008, I was sitting on the edge of the couch talking to the family. I was leaning forward, and had this uncomfortable feeling in my stomach. I had to sit back and almost lie back for it to stop. I told my wife that's it, i need to lose some weight. A few days later she came home from work and told me about FAT TO SKINNY, that one of her customers told her about. We looked it up on line, and listened to the promo, it was great! I then ordered the book and started to Doug's work. It didn't take long for my eating habits to change, and the weight to be gone. When i started this amazing new way to eat i was 226.2 lbs. Today i am 194 lbs. ( 32 lbs. ) and i am feeling the best  i have in a long time. Thanks Doug for making this easy to do, and for caring about my health.

Hi Doug,

We met on a flight out of Asheville SC.  You handed me a copy of your book because, you saw I needed it.  Not only do I love the book but it is my story too.  I, however, went to Marsh’s Men’s Store in Huntington Long Island, not only for my special (spelled husky) jeans, but for my special (spelled husky) boy scout uniform.  My mother also told me I was not fat, just big boned!

I did manage to knock off 50 LBS at the age of 18 with the help of a diet pill and a 1200 calorie diet.  I kept the weight off for several years thanks to Uncle Sam’s idea of daily activity and the sweat boxes called San Antonio and Amarillo Texas and then Alexandria Louisiana.  After the Air Force I was 6’ 1” and 215 lbs. of muscle. Imagine my shock when I was turned down for a job with Addressograph Co. because I was “obese”!  the doctor, by the way, weighed in over 300 lbs and had a pint of Jack Daniels in his desk drawer to keep his red nose from turning pink again.

Anyhow, I got another job and a second and third job (short order cook) to support the wife, new baby and new mortgage – I was working too hard to put on weight -----.  I found that I did not play well in the sandbox with others so I went into business and developed a commercial roofing company with a friend.  THAT kept me thin too.  I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce. As soon as we were big enough to get me off the roof or kettle or what ever, I slowly started to gain.  The less exercise I got, the more I gained.  After a series of other non athletic businesses I ended up weighing over 375 lbs.  with type 2 diabetes and a distinct aversion to exercise – it was painful, sweaty and more unpleasant the fatter I got.  Add a detached ACL on one leg and a ruptured Achilles tendon on the other and I had 2 more good excuses not to exercise.  I bought into the BS that my body had a natural set point for me and it was 350+ lbs.  Ain’t denial a wonderful thing?

I tried a couple of diets (even the half grapefruit – black coffee etc and soon decided that it wouldn’t make me live any longer – it would just feel that way.

Weight watchers did work but for personal reasons I dropped out and within 3 years put back the 42 LBs I lost.

I don’t believe in coincidences.  When you handed me that book it was just after a conversation with my girlfriend that if I wanted to live I HAD to do something about my weight FOR ME.  I was totally at a loss as to what.

Well, along came Doug and handed me a book which has changed my life.  For the first time I understand WHY I wasn’t losing weignt.  Now, everything I look at that is edible I convert to spoons of sugar and am beginning to gag at the thought of eating that much sugar.  I shared the book with a close friend and we both attacked the system.  (she tried to buy your book on the internet but it was not yet in print).

I am down 36 LBs  Yesterday I weighed in at 346.2 = that is lower than the lowest weight watchers mark that took a year and a half to hit.  It is not difficult and I still have not implemented your full plan.  Just eliminating the carbs and sugars is getting it done.  It also dropped my daily blood sugar from the 130s – to 140s down to between 80 and 115 and even if I cheat (Sunday is my cheat a little day) and have a Domino’s Thin Crust Pizza at 11:00 at night, my blood sugar was only 124 the next morning at 7:30.

Doug, I know it was not a coincidence, but I want to thank you for seeing my distress and giving me your wonderful gift of weight control.  I will stay in touch to keep you up to date.

May your book hit the NY Slimes “Best Seller List” and stay there for a year.  Best wishes and a thousand thanks.

Neil

PS – my friend Paula lost about 18 lbs too.

Hi Doug,
Went to my docs yesterday. He almost crapped in his stethoscope. LOL big time.

I am down 16 lbs. My a1c is down to almost non diabetic range, and my blood readings are like an athletes.
Cholesterol 138. Are you kidding me. Triglycerides dropped to 60.... I said 60. holy crud. that's incredible.

I am not kidding you this is the way to go.
I periodically crave pasta but I can live (literally) "Live" without it
Everything's better... yes I said everything. oh yeah baby.
Only one little thing... a little constipation but nothing serious.

I didn't know there was that many ways to cook broccoli and greens.
The mashed Cauliflower is killer good.

Had a big steak the other night and laughed my butt off.
Thank you for your caring.
Hunger is not a gnaging problem anymore.
I AM IN CONTROL NOW... NOT THE FRIGGING FOOD... Pardon my French.
Give me another month or so and I will upload some pictures.

P.S. Wife is loving it too..... she  dropped 7 lbs in no time.
she was more of a sugar freak than me.

Praise God that there are people like you that still truly care about others.

« on: March 04, 2010, 04:17:27 PM »
Dear Doug,

I was at the bookstore last Saturday, Jan 2, 2010, and found your book on display.  I was skeptical because Ive tried other diets, but I took it home and read it the same night.  Your advice made sense and so I started following your carb guidelines the next day (Sun. Jan 3rd).  When I started, I was at 278 lbs with a nice ORB around my mid section.  Unlike you, I was always skinny until I reached my 30s, then I started to balloon out.  Its now Friday, January 8 2010, and Im now at 270 lbs--8 lb drop in 6 days!!!!  Im looking forward to losing my ORB.  Ill keep you posted.

Thanks

Hey Doug,
Wanted to tell you, first of all I got a great response to your show.  On Fridays, I generally run "best of" shows and the week you were on I
repeated YOUR show because of the response.  I was thinking I would like to have you on, perhaps weekly for some time for 10 minutes or so as my
wife and I started your plan this past Monday.   It was funny, I knew were giving up the carbs completely (at least for an extended time) so
on Sunday, we went out to Red Robin and got burgers, onion rings and such.   That night I got a pizza at midnight.  All that to say, Monday
morning we started faithfully and I have to tell you as of this morning, I'm down 6.8 pounds SINCE Monday morning.  My wife has lost just over 4
pounds.   Thought it would be great to have you on the show, giving hints and tips to the audience and following me as well (although I
personally only want to loose another 10 pounds or so.)  Thought you would be encouraged by the news.

Get back with me and let me know what you think about the weekly segment.  My show runs LIVE Monday thru Thursday 3-4 pm eastern.  Take
care and I'll wait to hear from you.

Dear Doug: Thank you sooooo much for writing this book. I started it on January 24 and I weighed on Fri, January 29 and I had lost 9 lbs. I could not believe it. I am still learning about what to eat and what not to eat.

I will keep you posted on my success.

Thanks,
Patti
