How Do Our Bodies Metabolize Carbs, Protiens, and Fats?
« on: October 08, 2010, 09:07:20 PM »
Hi Doug!

I've read in your book (and have heard on a number of your videos) that we metabolize what we eat in the following order:

1) Net Carbs as SUGAR (not including fiber and sugar alcohols)
2) Protein
3) Fat

I know it works as I've been losing weight!  ;D And for this, I am eternally grateful to you!
But, what is unclear to me is how we burn body fat while limiting carbs and eating protein rich foods.

Based on the metabolic priority, it would seem that we would metabolize ingested protein BEFORE body fat.

Could you add a little clarity to this?
I have been asked this question more than once by others interested in losing weight.
Since others have noticed, this is a testament that I also LOOK skinnier to others!

I hope this does not fog things up for other F2S folks.
I realize that our metabolisms are VERY complex.
What you do today is what matters!

I do know as a diabetic that eating a protein with my carbs always helped keep me from having low blood sugars. When I ate say just a banana I would have a low sugar.

Actually I misspoke in one of my videos a couple years ago and gave an incorrect order. Here is the order directly from my books, chapter- How Do I Lose FAT

E Book page#52
Hard Copy page#50

This is the order in which your body burns fuel:

1st to burn, fuel #1- carbohydrates, which have turned into glucose (blood SUGAR).
2nd to burn, fuel #2- glycogen, stored glucose in the liver and muscle tissue.
3rd to burn, fuel #3- Fat stores in your body stored in fat cells. The FAT you want to lose.
4th to burn, fuel #4- protein, used to replenish body tissue.  Any excess will be burned as fuel.

sorry for the confusion however the vid I misspoke in has over a million global views now and can't be retrieved or changed :(

Hope this clears it up for you :)

Thanks Doug!... This makes perfect sense and matches up with other readings on fat metabolism from reputable sites on the web.
