Xylitol Can Be Deadly for Pets

I don't remember reading about this anywhere on this blog, but Xylitol is deadly for pets (especially dogs).

We'll be keeping our little pooch FAR away from it!!!
I read in another post that only 3 grams of Xylitol can kill a 65 lb. dog!

I'm waiting for the Xylitol to arrive to try out some holiday goodies and my dogs love baked goodies. (I know, not the best for them but they're part of the family too!) I would have probably fed them some!

OMG.. I dont have pets but wow.. Why is that?  But if its harmful for animals, why not us?  now I am in doubt???

Chocolate is harmful to animals too, but humans still eat it.

Don't be in doubt Alex, Xylitol although harmful to pets has been used for 30 years to sweeten human products. No worries

Theomyabine the chemical in chocolate is what is cause us to crave it and for it to kill dogs. Im guessing its something similar in xylitol. Seeing as the theomyabine isnt harmful to us.

Hi everybody!

I apologize for not making it clearer that XYLITOL IS SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.
It has been widely used and accepted as safe for a long time.

However, a dog's body chemistry is different than our own.
There are things we eat, that can hurt them or worse!
On the other hand, there are things they will eat without ill-effect that would make us barf.

Soooooo... Enjoy your Xylitol.
But as in everything else in life, enjoy in moderation.
