Ketosis questions
« on: May 04, 2011, 11:25:10 AM »
Just curious about Ketosis; I know everyone’s magic number is different based on many factors, but my question this: If you are in ketosis, then say you eat a piece of cake at wedding, going way above your magic number, does ketosis instantly stop, I assume so. Also, once it’s halted, is it all it takes to start it again for that cake to pass and you resume eating the good way keeping under magic number thus ketosis begins again within 24 hours? Is the body able to go in and out of ketosis like this easily and without real penalty as often as you make it happen? Just trying to understand what’s going on under the hood. Also, I know it says in the book that the first time a person does a low carb diet, their success rate is the highest, but is this because ketosis becomes harder and harder to achieve or is this simply because it’s mental thing that alters success rate after repeated attempts?

I don't know about everyone else but I accidentally drank a real soda (it was awful) and it kept me from loosing weight for a full week. So I am really careful what I eat and to stay within my limit of 12 or less!!

(I know it says in the book that the first time a person does a low carb diet, their success rate is the highest,)

Where did you read that in FTS? This is the first I've heard of it. Your body will indeed go in and out of Ketosis once you clear the excess blood sugar from your blood and the majority of glycogen from your liver. Each persons time frame will be different for the process..... stay away from the cake  ;)

Doug, truly sorry if I mistakenly quoted the book. I researched low carb like crazy and must have picked that up elsewhere. I just remember reading (paraphrasing now) “the first time a person a person does a low carb diet, they have the best chance of success”. I thought it was from one of your books. If not, I have no idea where I read that, but where ever it was, it didn’t explain why they claim that is the case. I’m just trying to learn more about what’s going on “under the hood” here.
