HBP meds reduced!
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:29:47 PM »
I just visited my doctor and she's reducing my high blood pressure medicine. One ingredient has been taken out altogether. The other has been lowered from 25MG to 5MG twice a day. After a week, I cut the evening dose out. Then after 2 months, I can stop taking them FOR GOOD if my pressure is okay. That will be right about the time we're going to WDW!

Thank you for your book, Doug!!! This medicine has made me feel awful from day one and I will be so glad to be off it for good!

That's fantastic, Rena!!!  :) :) :)

When I see my doc again soon, I hope to have a similar experience.

Besides the statin (Crestor) for cholesterol, I would like to get off of Doxazosin (one of my HBP meds).
That's the stuff that makes me dizzy.
What you do today is what matters!

Thanks, everyone. :)

I'm still a little dizzy, but I guess it has to wear out of me still. This morning was the first time I took the 5MG dose instead of the 25MG. I take another 5MG tonight. After a week, I get to take it just once a day and then hopefully stop for good. But believe me -- it sure felt GREAT flushing those 25MGs down the toilet!!!

mouseissue -- Good luck and I hope you can get yours meds reduced, too.

Rena, it was explained to me by my doc that the dizziness is caused by lack of blood flow to the brain when your pressure is to low. If you're still experiencing dizziness AT ALL consult your doctor. You may need the meds removed now.  ;)

Thanks, Doug.

I felt a lot better yesterday. Normally, I'd take 25MG in the morning, but yesterday I took 5MG in the morning and then another 5MG right before bed. I felt pretty good as the day went on. I monitored my BP and the numbers were good. She told me to take it twice a day for a week and then cut down to just once. It's 121/82 now (after a cup of coffee). Since it's a drastic change in dose, I'm keeping a close eye on it. Thanks for thinking of me and letting me know what your doctor said. I'll keep you posted.
