REESE'S SUGAR FREE Peanut Butter Cup Miniatures
« on: May 06, 2011, 02:39:22 PM »
These make me feel gross if I eat only a few. I'm a rookie to artificial sweeteners and sugar free stuff so I’m wondering if anyone can tell me please what is/are the sugar alcohol ingredient(s) in this product? Anyone else have the same gross feeling from these?

Here are the ingredients:

MALTITOL; PEANUTS*; CHOCOLATE*; COCOA BUTTER; LACTITOL (MILK); CELLULOSE GEL; POLYDEXTROSE; VEGETABLE OIL (PEANUT, PALM KERNEL AND PALM OIL); MILK FAT; CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF: CREAM (MILK)*; SALT; SOY LECITHIN; SODIUM CASEINATE (MILK); PGPR, EMULSIFIER; NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR; SUCRALOSE; TBHQ (PRESERVATIVE) *ADDS A NEGLIGIBLE AMOUNT OF SUGAR

Also, the little mini sugar free Hershey’s chocolate bars don’t seem to make me feel gross no matter how many I eat, but they do give me gas. Can someone please identify the sugar alcohols in these please:
MALTITOL; COCOA BUTTER; CHOCOLATE*; POLYDEXTROSE; CREAM (MILK)*; POLYGLUCITOL; MILK FAT; CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF: CALCIUM CARBONATE; COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI*; MALTODEXTRIN*; SODIUM CASEINATE (MILK) ; SOY LECITHIN; NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR; PGPR, EMULSIFIER *ADDS A NEGLIGIBLE AMOUNT OF SUGAR

I'm trying to determine which artificial sweeteners work best for me. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks

I would say the Malitol is the problem here.... From what I understand it can cause quite a bit of stomach distress.  I'm sure others with more experience with this will chime in soon though..  I try and stay away from it myself and use xylitol or stevia instead.  Sorry I couldn't help  more I'm kinda a rookie myself...LOL   ;)

Nice to see your face, Jo! :)

Sorry I can't be of any help on the candy. The only problem I have is wanting more.

Hi F2S-Awesome! :)

Sugar alcohols (polyols) can cause distress to the lower digestive tract and, in some causes, mild nausea.
Maltitol is a sugar alcohol.
As such, it can cause problems.

Short of an undiscovered food allergy, I don't see any other ingredients that would cause issues.

By the way, the effects of polyols can vary from time to time on the same person.
I've had occasions to have SF sweets LOADED with them and not have a problem.
On others, just a little and I'd get gas and sometimes even diarrhea! :-\
What you do today is what matters!
