QUestion for Doug or anyone else : ) ?
« on: May 22, 2011, 08:37:21 AM »
I have never been diagnosed with diabetes . But with hubby being type 2 & Tyler being Type 1 I check my sugar sometimes more so since being on FTS . My question is .

I get up at 4:15 every morning to get my hubby off to work  I check my sugar and it is 103-110 every morning after I have my coffee it rises about 5 points 15 -1 hour .
Then at lunch and for the rest of the day it is anywhere from 70-90 . To go along with that in the mornings I am never showing keytones I start showing them about 10-11 and I check my BS and they are 70-90  . So it seems to me that the elevated BS in the morning is causing me to not burn fat in the morning which could be the cause to my slow weight loss .  :-\ ???

So my question is there anything I can do about the elevated BS in the morning ? I have listed this mornings sugar just so you ave a idea

4:15 Am-- 103
coffee
5:00 AM -109
6:00 Am- 108
6:30 2 fried eggs /pita 5 carbs
6:45 Am -103
7:00 AM -105
7:30 AM -107
No Keytones showing as of 7:30 Am
I thought BS might go  down after I ate ,but it did not I am going to check every hour to see when it drops . Yesterday when the sugar went down the keytones showed . ???
8:15 -3 cheese chips 0 carb
8:30 Am -105 /trace keytones
9:30 AM -105
10:30 AM - 92

Hi Jo! :)

When your body senses hunger, it will shut off ketosis.
This is quite normal in the mornings as we haven't eaten all night and our bodies know it.
My experience has been after eating something low carb first thing, the hunger gets "turned off" and ketosis will normally begin.

As you know, I too am a slow loser. So I can relate to how you feel.
I've tried most everything mentioned by Doug (and some others I'd thought of).
But I can't make my body lose any faster than it has been without jeopardizing my health.

But, you might try this an experiment.
Eat a little something light with your first cup of coffee in the AM to see what happens.

Each AM, I take vitamin supplements.
With those, I eat one GG Bran Crispbread with a little cream cheese, Beanit Butter, and/or SF jelly along with my first cup of coffee.
On other days, I'll have a low carb yogurt instead.

It's possible that eating something straight away in the mornings may not change your rate of weight loss.
But it's worth a shot! ;)
What you do today is what matters!

Thanks Tony , I have read that some people on a low carb way of life have higher fasting BS ,that is just a little weird to me but  maybe it is normal . I will try eating a little something with my first cup of coffee . It is hard to eat at 4 AM .

I was just curious if anyone else has a higher Fasting BS ?  I got some smaps (or is it snaps ) Maybe I can eat some of those with my 4 AM coffee .
I am sure that all the yo-yo dieting I have done is playing a part of my screwed up metabolism . Also my hubby put the STUPID scale back out . I will weigh tommorrow morning and make him put it away ,because I fell better ,thinner/smaller until I get on the freaking scale .

JUst call me dummy for keep getting on it LOL I said I was done but if it is out where I can see it I am on it .

Thanks Tony for all your helpful post  :-* :-* .

You're more than welcome, Jo! :)
And one other thing about ketosis and blood sugar...

Urine test strips test for the presence of ketones in the urine.
As you know, ketones are the "ash" that's left behind AFTER fat burning has been going on.
Therefore, ketosis would have already been occurring some time BEFORE ketosis was evident on a urine test strip.
This explains the two hour lag before seeing a response on the ketone test strip this morning.

According to my doc, normal fasting blood glucose level is about 110 (or less).
Much higher than that and there's room for concern.

The blood glucose numbers you shared are all within normal limits. So I would not be concerned.
Given that, I do not believe that your glucose levels are effecting your weight loss.
But your continued weight loss will effect your glucose levels in a positive way.
What you do today is what matters!

Well I thought that fasting was suppose to be less then 100 , Well I am glad they are good I will just keep chugging along ,the only other option is to be bigger this time next year or smaller I will take the smaller .

I know that after 8 months on FTS I will never go back to eating the way I used too . I love the way I feel !!! ;D

Tony I just hope that when you reach your goal you dont quit coming to the forum all the new people on here need your wisdom that you give through your post . I can not tell you the times that I was frustrated or need a answer and you were there to help .

I am sure everyone agrees with me we will need your wisdom more then once or twice a week !!!!!!!

Thank you both!... I feel humbled. ::)
I pray each morning that the Good Lord grant me the wisdom I need.
So your thanks should really go to Him!

By the way, at my last doctor's visit in March, my fasting blood glucose was 115.

In a number of circumstances, that would be considered a bit high.
But considering it in context with my other blood panel numbers, the 115 did not bother my doc in the least.
In fact, he decided to take me off Metformin and declared that I'm no longer diabetic! :)

The point here is, assuming that it's not very high or low, your blood glucose MUST be considered along with the rest of your blood panel results, medical condition, and medical history.

So if your doctor is not concerned, you shouldn't be either!
