Scott in Florida - 36 weeks

This was a pretty good week!  I'm down 1.8 pounds and getting closer each week to the "70 pounds lost" mark, which is pretty exciting for me. 

This week I tried an experiment - I had a meal of regular, carb-laden spaghetti.  I wanted to see how it would affect my 5-mile run the next day.  As far as I can tell, it had no effect.  It still felt like 5 miles  :)  There was a pit bull that added a little adrenaline at the end (you can read that story in my "35 week" thread from last week). 

I'm glad to see that my carb meal didn't really affect my continued weight loss either.  Who knows, maybe it helped - some people talk about a "reset" day in which you eat whatever you want, and it shakes up your metabolism to keep it on track with losing weight.  Tim Ferriss advocates this in his latest book, "The 4 Hour Body".  I am not sure about how I feel about it.  Just glad the number keeps going down.

That's kind of what my instinct tells me.  I have a friend who did the South Beach diet once, and he said there was a reset day built in.  It seems like just a gimmick to make people think that they can do whatever they want for one day a week and still feel like they are on a "diet".  (who wants to be on a diet anyway??)

Doug, you should take it to the next level - why not build in one reset week per month?  People would love that! Your book sales would skyrocket!  Of course, the testimonial/success stories pages might be a little scarce...

The easiest sale in the world, " Find out what the people want and give it to them" That's what South beach did. On the heels of the restrictive Atkins plan Southbeach arrived on the scene. The big difference between the two? Southbeach created the theory of "good carbs" which justified the addition of fruits, grains and cereals into their program giving the people what they wanted. Of course its all a bunch of crap. carbs are carbs are carbs despite how bad you may want them they will indeed turn into sugar. Yes, Southbeach sold lots and lots of books.............Me? I'll stick to the truth  ;)

I think the idea of a reset day just stalls your weight loss so you can continue to stay on their program and buy their products.  The amount of carbs in nutrisystem meals, WW meals and the like are astounding.  No wonder I never lost more than 20 lbs on their programs.

I think a better idea for a "reset day" would be a 0 carb day once a week.
That means absolutely no net carbs for those days.

In order to avoid constipation, on those days, it would be very helpful to increase the water and fiber intake even if the fiber comes from fiber capsule supplements.
