Hey Stephanie.  I have been taking a thyroid medication for around 3 years now.  My physician noticed my thyroid was enlarged & ordered some blood work which resulted in me being prescribed a low dose of synthroid.  Back at the time, he told me that this RX might make it EASIER for me to lose weight (though I wasn't trying at the time.  :-\)  I go back this week for my 6 month check up this Thursday.  Not sure if losing weight affects your thyroid function, but I will ask him and let you know what I find out.  ;)

Hi Stephanie! :)

My wife takes meds for her "malfunctioning" thyroid.
Without them, it really would mess up her weight loss progress not to mention her health in general.

If you take a similar drug as my wife, be sure to follow your doc's instructions EXACTLY!
For example, my wife can't take any other drugs, vitamins, etc. within 2 hours of taking her thyroid med.

Her thyroid condition was not caused by (nor helped from) low carb eating.
The two have little to do with one another.

That being said, if she were to eat "high carb", she would quickly gain weight and her A1c would go thru the roof!
And conversely, having her thyroid under control helps her lose weight. ;)
What you do today is what matters!

Thank you everyone for your response! I just couldn't understand why I haven't lost that much weight, being on the program and all. In high school, I was pretty skinny, got married, and had kids, well, y'all know the end result! I just had no idea it had anything to do with the thyroid?! We've been excersizing and all. Thanks again, and I'll keep y'all posted!

I have hypothyrodism, which means I don't produce enough thyroid. I've been on "meds" for years. I guess they're not really medication, but more hormone therapy. Thryoid problems can be why some people struggle to lose weight. I was told that my meds might help me lose weight, but I don't know if that was every the case. I'm probably due to have mine re-checked.

Is yours over-active (hyperthyrodism) or under-active (hypothyrodism)?

In all honesty, I've never noticed anything from taking the medicine, good or bad. I've never had any side effects, so I guess that's a good thing.

No big deal Stef ;) But are you hyper or hypo? My mothers thyroid dissolved, so she takes synthroid. Just keep up the program and the weight will come off  :)
