Plateau and Need Ideas!
« on: August 18, 2011, 04:44:38 PM »
I have been doing FTS since the middle of July and I love the plan.  I have lost 15 lbs. so far (YAY!)  However, I haven't lost any weight in a week.  I have always lost at least a half pound every day or two.  I am not giving up as I have gotten over the sugar cravings and am thrilled.  I am just wondering if there are any other women out there who have gone through this and what they did to jump start the weight loss again.  I am going to begin exercising I think just to make me feel better.  Thanks!

Hi Happy Camper,

I started on July 14th ;D

The week before last I didn't lose a single pound either.  I was even exercising more!  Only thing I did differently that week was...... I discovered one minute muffins!  I LOVE them and ate one everyday that week.

So last Saturday I stopped eating them and I lost the very next day!  Strange, huh? Who knows if was the muffins or maybe my body just needed a week to catch up.  I'm hoping for 3 lbs this week!!

Have you been eating anything different?  Good luck!

congrats to you both.. I have found that sodium is a huge issue with me.. I retain easily 2 to 4 lbs of water.. When I dont use sodium, I easily weigh 2 to 4 lbs less the next day... :o :o :o :o

Im super sensitive to carbs so I just stick with veggies.. I want to try the MM but Im scared that I will like them too much..

I've had a few plateaus over the last year, and every time I just kept doing what I was doing, and I got through it.  The science behind this way of eating is irrefutable; the weight has to come off.  There will be temporary times when it comes off more slowly.  The body is a pretty complex group of systems so there's a lot going on in there, but you will start losing again.

Of course, that assumes that you are following this plan very closely.  If you have a plateau that lasts several weeks, you might need to take a look at how many carbs you are actually taking in each day.  And if you are drinking enough water (most of us aren't).  Don't worry, you'll get through it!

Hey happycamper!  Welcome to FTS!  Sounds like you are doing great!!  I started FTS about 2 weeks before you (July 6 or thereabouts)  as you can see I haven't even lost a total of 15 pounds YET!  Don't worry, I have gone as long as a week before the pounds started dropping again.  I am finding out that 20 carbs a day for me is high, will probably be my "maintain" count.  I find when I do under 20 a day I do better.  I am up and down because of the water retention but still try to drink as much as possible.  Thanks to the forum and great posts and advise here you find the information you need to complete your new you.  Good Luck.

Welcome to our family, happycamper! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Like the others said, don't sweat it.
It's not uncommon for weeks to pass before of some us (like me) see the scale move.

In Doug's book, he mentions three weeks as a timeframe to consider changing something.
Until then, don't worry about it! ;)

It can be a little frustrating when the scale doesn't move.

But you know, when you think about it, all of us have an ultimate goal of hitting a plateau!  Right?  We want to get to a certain weight (or weight range) and not have the scale move any more!

 ;)

Suzlyn454 I find that 20 is too high for me too.  :) When I want to lose I try to stay at 12 carbs or less and eat nothing with sugar alcohols in them. My body just does not lose if I eat sugar alcohol items.
