SF extracts
« on: September 25, 2011, 08:07:47 AM »
I hope no one has posted this question before as I used the search bar and couldn't find one.

Where does everyone purchase the SF extracts?  I can't find them at any local grocery stores.

Binky are you looking for the sf extracts or the sf syrups?  My Walmart has started carrying the Watkins brand that is a little cheaper than the McCormick brand extracts.  http://www.watkinsonline.com/productsgroup.cfm?Parent=3&family=228&gCatalogLocale=USA&ECredit=386234&group=595  I don't see anything in the ingredients list that would suggest having any sugar or sweetener.  I would think that would make them sf.  Don't buy that brand in the vanilla though it has corn syrup in it.    I don't know why they feel a need to but that in but the McCormick brand doesn't.  If you are looking for the sf syrups like Torani or Davinci you can sometimes find them next to the coffees.  I haven't seen many store carry them though.... you may have to order those on line.   I hope this helps  ;)

I purchased some lemon, walnut, orange and blue berry flavoring yesterday at a little store called The Head Nut. I live outside of Philadelphia, and have been purchasing Almond Flour at Giant and Whole Foods they are $9.99 to $11.99 per pound.  Well yesterday I bought it in bulk un blanched for $5.99 per pound, if you got three pounds.  Well hello!

I just ran to the kitchen to check what the labels said on the flavorings... they don't say much.  Just that it has no Added sugars.  Hmmmm I wonder. Well I won't use them for now, since I really don't have anything to make with them.

While I'm here, The Almond Flour.. I use it for everything.  I actually deep fried Egg Plant in a egg and Almond flour dip, then I poured the egg into the Almond flour and added some Garlic powder, smooshed it all up and deep fried the globs.  OMGosh it was wonderful!

Hi Binky! :)

Most extracts are SF.
There are some "gourmet" or specialty extracts that have additives that contain net carbs.

As always... Read all labels VERY carefully! :o
If something is added, it will be listed on the box (or bottle).
What you do today is what matters!

Blinky, It's really good.  My daughter came home late last night and wanted to know what I did to the Egg plant?  I thought she was going to tell me she hated it.  Oh no, she goes.. Mom it taisted so good, can you do that chicken?

Chicken????  Oh why not!

I'm wondering if any body has made Doug's pop overs?  The ones with the Almond Flour.  So good with some butter and sf syrup.  I'm loving it!

I found the Watkins brand at my Walmart too.  Sugar wasn't listed as an ingredient.  Thanks!!!
