i'm confused...
« on: September 27, 2011, 04:17:14 PM »
Ok, so I thought I was consuming too few calories b/c it seems everytime i eat MORE (or cheat, which is rare LOL) I LOSE.  So, I have been counting calories today eating like I typically do.  I set my limit for 1200.  I know what I'm eating for dinner minus my side, and including dinner entree, I am  228 calories away from 1200.  Which, is mighty CLOSE especially if I add a salad with ranch...so, now i'm wondering if maybe i have been going OVER 1200 somehow ( I don't THINK so , but when you TRACK IT, makes you wonder.)  I guess the question is: What is a good caloric goal to be at on this plan if you have STALLED, which I pretty much have this entire month. No REAL up's or downs at ALL...just lingering....advice?

Hi eliruthy! :)

Remember, FTS is about net carbs and portion sizes... Not calories.
So try not to focus on calories. If you do, you will confuse yourself.

In answer to your question, a number of members have reported losing more weight when they increase their fat intake.

I know!... I know!... We've been taught that fat makes fat. So this sounds confusing. It's one reason why diets don't work!
This really does make sense... The body uses much more energy metabolizing fat than it does net carbs.

Therefore, if you've stalled, try doing this:

(1) Eliminate foods with sugar alcohols (sweeteners). These are commonly known to cause stall outs.
(2) Eat ONLY when hungry. But don't allow yourself to get TOO hungry.
(3) When you do eat, DON'T overeat. Use Doug's 15 minute rule.
(4) Eat foods HIGHER in fat content than you have up to now.

As far as how much fat, you will have to find that out for yourself as no two of us are alike.

If you are still stalled, try eating fewer than 20 net carbs a day.
Some of members have had to do this to keep their progress moving forward.
What you do today is what matters!

To lose weight I have to eat 12 carbs or less per day. That's just the way my body works. Maybe you should try cutting out a few and see if it helps you??

I too was wondering about the whole calorie thing.  I have a women that lives at the retirement home that I work.  She moved in last December after spending 6 months at a Duke U. weight loss program  When she went she was over 500 pounds. While at duke she lost over 180lbs.  But.. when she got home, she started putting on the pounds again.  Back in May we started the biggest loser at work, and she joined.  She did lose 50  pounds doing it, but it was the way that she lost them that confused me.

She spends hours and hours at the gym, she can only really walk in the pool, and walk with her walker around the track.  She's 57 years old, and it breaks my heart because now she's doing Isogenics ( I spelled that one wrong)  She's counting calories, brings measuring cups with her all the time, and still even though she's losing weight.... I know in my heart that as soon as she's done she's going to pile it all back on!  I have told her about this forum, the book and she sees how well Joe and I are both doing.  But... shes not going to do it....It's too easy!

So anyway I suppose what I'm trying to say is the women told me she has to ingest 7000 oh I said 000 calories a day to be able to lose. WHAT!!

I'm going to keep dropping little hints.  I even started taking my doug pan cakes to work with me to eat in the dining room with everybody.  She was kind of curious about what they were, but... wouldn't dare budge to eat one.  This life style is contagious and I am going to be the flu that spreads it!

Don't count your calories, be wise about what you eat though

Mary

Sorry way too much coffee this morning!  I have to go get ready for work.

WOW!!!  I hope you convince her soon for her sake!  Calorie counting OVER!!! LOL.  Everyone that I have turned on to this diet that WANTS to lose the weight, IS.  The others have given up before they find a solution to why they are stalled...or never really was 100% to begin with.  Luckily, the LOSERS outweigh the non losers hehehe. ;)

Hi Binky! :)

The quest to lose weight (and keep it off) requires first, a desire and then a commitment.
Think of it like your car keys and gasoline.
A desire (the key) will start the process (the car). But, it's commitment (the gas) that will keep you going. ;)

Only those that have made a genuine personal commitment to improve their health and stick to it, will succeed.
Those without that commitment, won't.

Yes it does. :)

I decided to try for another twenty and I like it. I think I might go for 10 more but that should do it. :)

Counting calories is old school and has proven time and time again to fail.....why? Simple really...counting calories and reducing food intake go hand and hand. Simply reducing food intake without reducing carbs dooms a person to failure. Oh, you CAN lose weight eating nothing but bread and water for a month but who can sustain that type of eating plan. People get hungry and eventually increase their food intake and calories to satisfy the hunger and the weight comes back on.

FTS has been designed to satisfy you with wonderful dense foods designed to give your body all it needs while still eating smaller portions. Cutting out all the carbs removes the cravings associated with sugar addiction and puts you in touch with "true hunger" True hunger is very easy to satisfy with heavy proteins, greens and fats.

Get in touch with your personal food needs and follow Mouseissue's advice above :)
