Newbie!!! Need Help :P
« on: January 16, 2012, 06:23:30 PM »
Hello, I'm new to this low carb diet stuff and yesterday I bought some great ingredients to cook with. Concern is that since I'm asian american. I used to tend to eat rice like always. I tried eating the cauliflowered mash potato's. Either I cooked it wrong. But, it didn't really taste that good. Is there any alternative besides using cauliflower. How about brown rice?"

I also made two stirloin slices and put cajun spices and other ingrediants with it (Bell pepper, onions) is that good? or did I just overeat that???

Thank You! :)

Hi Life777 and welcome to the forum!   I had to keep trying until I got the mashed cauliflower to suit my taste.  So glad I didn't give up on it because now it's one of my favorite side dishes.  When I put the softened cauliflower in my food processor, I just add a little salt, pepper, mayo & a little cheese or real butter.   You can also add garlic or top it with bacon bits too.  Try to avoid the brown rice due to the carb count.  I haven't yet tried the cauli rice, but I hear it is yummy!  There's tons of great recipes here and in the cookbooks.  Try lots of things until you find the things you like.

The sirloin slices with onions and peppers is great!  Just don't eat too many onions since they have a few more carbs than the peppers.  Good luck to you!!  ;D  You will really enjoy this forum....it's like a family.  Everyone is so supportive, and we're all in this together.

Hey thank you for your reply!!
That actually gave me a confidence to be honest!

I have one more question if you don't mind. I went to the grocery store and was looking at the labels. It showed the carbs but usually never the "sugar alcohol" that you are suppose to subtract with it. So just ignore it? And sometimes not even the fiber? Also. Do i just avoid bread period? If u know any good store brand bread please tell me. I love my breads :(

Welcome to the family Life777, I know you love your bread and your rice, we all used to love our bread and rice....that's why we got FAT in the first place. Switching ingredients will indeed change some flavors and even some textures however you will learn lo love the new flavors and textures as much as you loved the old. It's all in what we get used too. Check out the caulirice recipe, it's very good and easy to make. Bread recipes can be found in the FTS Sugar Free Bakery book available here- http://www.shop.fattoskinny.com/

Hey there!
We LOVE Korean food in our house, so this is a challenge for me, too! Mmm...japchae, bulgogi (marinated in sugar...sigh)....so many yummy dishes that I'd love to gorge myself on.  :D Unfortunately, Ken's right. This is why we got fat in the first place. Even though I'd LOVE to eat it, I just have to remind myself that it's not a great choice for me. Sad as it is.
But I'll totally commiserate with you because I'm missing it, too!
