Exchanging Flaxmeal and Almond meal
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:07:12 AM »
I Love almond. I know that I would go berserk if I had almond meal in the house. My husband would find me on the floor in the pantry just sniffing it like some old glue sniffer. LOL Can I exchange flaxmeal for the equal amount of almond (sniff sniff) in the recipe's that I have?  Please say yes. Thanks heaps Kathy

Hi Kathy   Yes you can use flax meal. There are lots of folks that don't like one or the other.   I tend to use what ever I have on hand for the recipe I'm trying to make.  Sometimes though I do come up on a recipe that I don't care for with one or the other.  I think it's just a matter of taste....   ;)  One bonus for using the flax over the almond is a lower carb count  ;D

Golden flaxseed is works as a substitute my little almond sniffing friend ;) But it really is a matter of taste.Buy a bag of golden flax and regular flaxseed and play with it.Golden Flax is my favorite for the OMM  breads.I like flax because it is heartsmart. The nutrients arent released though until it is heated so eating it raw is strictly fiber. Remember when working with these flours don't pack them in measuring cups just pour.A 10 oz bag of almond flour is 2 cups even though it says 10 oz on front ;) Unblanched Now brand almond flour is only 4 carbs per cup.

I'm one of those who prefer flax (both kinds) over almond meal. I LOVE almonds, but there's something about almond flour that doesn't suit my tastes. I like the flax because it's more grainy, sort of like a whole wheat bread. Before I went to FTS, I ate mostly grainy whole wheat breads and hardly ever any white bread, so maybe that's why I like it so much. Plus, it is cheaper like Jo said, and the carbs are lower.
