Body Tuck
« on: February 01, 2013, 02:50:57 AM »
Has anyone lost all their weight and decided on a 'body tuck' to get rid of the excess skin?  I have noticed that parts of my stomach (where I have obviously lost weight) is now very soft and squishy,  whereas it used to be 'solid' if you will.  I can only presume that the fat has gone off to the universe somewhere (anywhere but me thank goodness) and what is left is stretched skin.

I'm not finished with the losing of the weight, but I have been watching the odd Extreme Makeover show where people are having the 'tuck', and contemplating if I would go this route.  Factors of course being money and more so my age.  If I was younger and still had many many years left (I'm hoping of course I still have many many years left, but these are my mature years not my 'in the prime' years) I would say a resounding YES (maybe) but now, hmmmm, not too sure.

It would be nice to be trim but that time really has come and gone and lets face it, it is major surgery.  The older you are the longer the recovery, etc.

These type of shows do seem to skip over the hazards of this surgery, but I have seen others and I got to say OWIE OWIE OWIE and that's just watching it.  A friend (in her 60s) has just had a tummy tuck for reasons other than appearance (or so she says) and seems to have had no issues.

Anyone having, had or contemplating?

Hi Morgan, I found that exercise fills that skin back up with muscle tissue, and Vitamin E helps the elasticity of the skin. You are correct, it is major surgery no matter what the doctors say. I hate needles so you can imagine how I feel about scalpels!  :o :o

Shea Butter is cheap and wonderful. Doug is right about exercise.   I would take a wait and see approach ;) Or this could be you.............

Hi Morgan,  I still have weight to lose too.  I will say I "had" thought about maybe one day having that surgery, but I have TOTALLY changed my mind.  My 1st cousin lost 80 pounds, and decided to have the excess skin removed last year.  She did all her homework, really checked out her surgeon, and she STILL had major complications. She got a serious infection, had to be re-admitted to the hospital, had blood transfusions, her incision would NOT heal & it had to be left open for weeks!  When she finally got home again, she had to have home health care nurses come out to re-pack the wounds and change the dressings.  She is doing fine now, but she is left with horrible scars.  She is facing MORE surgery to revise the scars now.

After seeing what she went through.....I won't be doing that.  I am sure some folks have no problems, but I am just not willing to take that risk.   When I get closer to my goal, I'll just buy some spanks or tighter jeans.   ;)

I also know a 42 year old mother of two that went to have a tummy tuck.  Her husband and children now have to go through life with out her because of complications she had.  It's just not worth the price you may have to pay..    :(

Never never get a surgery. Unless, it is a matter of your health; not vanity.
Look to the beauty of yourself. it is right there.

Sounds like Jans friend had a staph infection. Staph bacteria is everywhere and very easy to catch...especially from a hospital. I've always wondered why doctors don't start treating for them prior to surgery to help insure the proper antibiotic levels to fight them off. Maybe those return visits to the hospital help their profits  :o :o  Yeah I know they would never do that now would they  ::) I have such a mistrust level for the medical community, sad really  :-\ but I have found some great doctors who after being put through a meat grinder by me have proven to be true and wonderful professionals. 8)
