Family recipe is FTS friendly!
« on: July 15, 2013, 03:23:13 AM »
I asked my mom for one of my favorite food recipes she used to make and I wrote down what she said (she's very much like "oh a sprinkle of this and add enough to coat the top" about her recipes lol) and I realized this was a very FTS friendly meal. She calls it Meat and Zucchini. Can't get much simpler than that. I made it tonight for the first time for my large family and they all raved about it! Score! :-) They managed leave me a tiny bit for my lunch tomorrow so that's good. It's zucchini sliced, hamburger meat, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder, and Italian seasoning, add mozzerella on top with sliced olives all simmered for 20 minutes. I added a few fresh Roma tomatoes to tonight's dish because I was given a huge bag of them yesterday. I need to use them up! It was delicious. Glad I found a family recipe that's also good for me and my family. No one complained about no starch with this casserole!

Delish! I find that many family recipes are indeed FTS friendly. Many times it's the side dishes that need to change the most.

If you don't want to do pasta sauce you can do stewed tomatoes in mason jars ;)

Doug, very true. Most of my moms dishes were casseroles though so I have to improvise more with those.

Hi, Michelle! :)

You will also find that marinara sauces are usually lower carb that other sauces (e.g. spaghetti sauce, pizza, sauce, etc.).

They are often a bit lighter too because they don't have added meat, mushrooms, etc..
But those you can add yourself without adding carbs. 8)

Very true, Tony and I often add extra goodies to my sauces...like homemade meatballs without filler, just lots of herbs and spices and parm. Yummy!

Yes one of my favorites! I didn't know how easy they were, I'd never made them before and certainly didn't have any recipes without breadcrumbs but I found one and it was a keeper. It had both sweet and heat! It called for sweetener, herbs, and cayenne! They were good! I'd eat just a plate of those without the sauce sometimes lol. It's from a low carb cookbook I bought a while back and is really become a staple in my house. I make a bunch up and freeze them and he'll "steal" them for spaghetti. Lol. He won't admit it but he likes them a lot!
