I primarily drift weighted jigs under a bobber.
Sometimes tipped with a very small piece of shrimp for scent.
On occasion, using a level wind reel and 7.5-8 ft. medium graphite rod,
I'll use standard drift fishing techniques with pencil lead and leader with corkie & yarn, and/or
salmon/steelhead roe, or shrimp tails, or sand (ghost) shrimp, in combo with spin-n-glos, cheaters, etc..
Spinners and spoons work well too, in the right conditions.
In the dead of Summer, I'll sometimes use a spinning reel and medium-light action 10 ft. rod,
floating black nymph flies with splitshot under a bobber (or alone) will pry open reluctant steelhead mouths.
I've also been known to plunk (still fishing) with pyramid sinker, spin-n-glos with roe, rod holder and
a folding chair, and cooler with a few brewskys and sharp cheddar cheese.
I just now got a hankering for smoked steelhead, sharp cheese, and cold beer!
