Just started & not doing so great.
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:20:32 AM »
Hi all,

So I started FTS two days ago and have been keeping my carb intake to about 15 and my calories to about 1300 but then I've been starving in the night and am so uncomfortable that I can't sleep so I have 1 tbsp of almond butter or an ounce of cheese.  (I can honestly say that no hidden sugars are in my food. I won't even touch the mayo that I usually used because I see now that it has sugar in it.)

Usually when I start a plan, I usually lose after the very first day but in two days nothing, not even .5 of a pound.  The only thing I can think of is that I didn't drink much water.  I know it's kind of silly to expect so much but I've always lost after the first day compared to how I was eating before the plan!

I just need a bit of encouragement because I lost a few pounds very quickly on Atkins but could never get past a 2-3lb loss and then I'd keep gaining which was incredibly frustrating.

Also, I am very, very tired and have some leg cramps.  Is this normal?

I could really use encouragement.  I love the concept of the FTS lifestyle but am feeling nervous to proceed. I've just been let down by so many other plans before that I guess I'm scared.

Thanks for reading!

for sure dont get frustrated after 2 days......or ever for that matter, try making your last meal of the day all protein,it will stay with you longer and hopefully you wont feel "starved" at bedtime:) usually when i feel tired, its my body telling me " hey, gary i NEED to be used,i am sick of sitting around,PLEASE take me for a walk!"  and thats what i do and i feel energized afterwards:) try it you'll like it:)

Hi Nic.... welcome to the party :) Here's my advice

#1- Listen to Katary (Gary)  he's correct
#2- Stay off the scale for another full week or two
#3- Where in my book do you see one word referring to calories? Go back and read the 15 minute rule and follow my suggested eating plan. I don't want you hungry and if you truly are hungry vs fixated on food you're not eating enough protein and fats.
#4- Except the fact that this is not a diet or a plan or any other kind of traditional "weight loss program" This is your new lifestyle and your new way of eating. You are removing all sugars from your intake and weight loss is the bonus from making that change....get the idea? Stop being in a hurry, don't worry about being disappointed...just relearn how to eat and have fun with it.
#5- Understand that some of your discomfort are sugar withdrawals...like any drug or booze.
#6- Look in the mirror and commit to your new health initiative
#7- Embrace your new FTS family here at the forum, we are all here for each other.

THE END  ;D

Thanks Gary, Thanks Doug.

I can't even believe you take the time to answer these posts.  You are an AMAZING person Doug and I am going to take your advice to heart.

I even found a low carb grocery store in my area and I'm going to check it out this week and pick up the items you suggest (beanit butter etc. - those cookies you make on this site look delish!)

Thanks again and I look forward to positive changes as a result of FTS and then I can help other newbies one day!

Best, Nic
