Fiber
« on: May 02, 2014, 10:58:07 PM »
Hi Umpa:

Trying to figure out how to get more fiber into my diet and still keep carbs below/at 20. GG crackers are fine but I can't do too many without feeling really bloated!

Thanks for any help

Hi, madoctor! :)

Umpa's right! I take 5 Metamucil capsules every day.
However, I also try to include some green veggies into my daily eating plan.

For example, right now fresh asparagus is in season (cheaper). It's an excellent low-carb source of fiber.
It has many wonderful nutrients PLUS it's a great diuretic and helps keep blood pressure lower.
I'll try to eat fresh asparagus about 3 times a week until it gets more expensive later in the year.

I'll cut it into bite size chunks and place in a microwave-safe bowl with 1 TBSP butter and some salt & pepper.
I'll nuke this for about 3 minutes. Stir, then eat! ;D

Thanks guys.  Also got some psyllium husk powder to add to stews etc.  Tastes okay too!

Try the OMM (one minute muffin), is mainly all fibre and makes great pancakes or toast. :)
