Small mistake BIG problem
« on: July 24, 2010, 08:23:37 AM »
The science behind FAT TO SKINNY doesn't change from person to person or year to year. We are all human and our biological makeups are the same....yes some of us are more sensitive to sugar than others but the fact is blood sugar and foods that metabolize into blood sugar are the culprits that make us FAT. When weight loss stalls the answer is always the same.... we are not burning more than we're taking in. So what do we do? We go back to food and take a very close look at what we are eating. In the example below one of our readers weight loss has stalled and I asked for an accurate list of foods being eaten. One of the foods being consumed is cereal....I asked for the info on the cereal and she sent me the info below. I instantly saw her mistake......can you?

the cereal brand is... Kashi GO LEAN
(1 C. = 30 carbs minus 10 dietary fiber, 1 soluble fiber, 9 insoluble fiber)

i have about 1/4 cup(2.5 carbs) and mix 1 TBS crunchy natural peanut butter(2 carbs)= 4.5 carbs
weird. i know...but quick and yummy enough to satisfy me for couple days

yup she is counting the dietary fiber, soluble fiber & insoluble fiber as separate items and adding them up for a total of 20 to subtract from the 30 carbs for a total of 10 net carbs per cup & then dividing that by 4 to arrive at her 2.5 carbs per 1/4 cup......when in reality the dietary fiber # of 10 already includes both the soluble & insoluble fiber #'s,so actually the net carbs is 20 per cup divided by 4 for 5 carbs per 1/4 cup:)     not to mention the fact that kashi cereal is in your top 10 "foods that are killing us" list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I might not have asked it correctly or I must have gotten confused to the answer when I asked about
subtracting these fiber counts a month ago....

OK guys I'm going to give you a challenge. Go to the store and buy a can of sauerkraut and your favorite low sugar kielbasa. Open the can of kraut and strain it, give it a 10 second rinse, longer if you wish to have less "tang" and set aside. Cut your sausage in half and pan fry...throw in the krout and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Dump it all on a plate and crack open a good mustard...give a bite a try and get back to us with your thoughts
