FTS Sweetner vs Splenda and other sweetners
« on: May 02, 2012, 08:08:44 PM »
Hi guys,
Guess what, 2 weeks and no weight loss.  Feeling alittle frustrated about losing 2 pounds to gain back 2 pounds.  This has been going on for 2 weeks now!! I'm stuck at the same 9-11 lb weight loss in 2 months!

I just saw Doug's posting in the dessert forum about Splenda having carbs.  I think I read that Splenda can cause a stall in some people as well as sugar alcohols.  I have a question.  Can the fTS sweetner be used for baking?  I saw where Umpa uses xylitol for baking, stevia for coffee.  What is the FTS sweetner used for?  Can it be used to replace Splenda?  I make these mini cheesecake muffins that are 3 carbs each.  I eat these in the morning for breakfast with 1/2 cup of fresh berries.  I'm concerned that these "delicious little treats" are sabbotaging me!  Can I convert the Splenda and use another sweetner to find out if indeed the Splenda is the culprit?

I'm desperately seeking an answer.  I have increased my water intake.  I know I need to do a better job of keeping track of the number of carbs I consume throughout the day.  I realized the other day that I was enjoying almonds for a snack but my portion was off.  I've since elminated the almonds.
Please HELP!!!!!!

Hi Sandrarbsn   I'm so sorry you are so frustrated.  I sure understand the feeling.  First off lets start with.... yes the FTS zero sweetener can be used to replace any and all sweeteners that you have been using.  Doug has posted a chart as to how much to use in place of recipes.  Now for not seeing a weight loss.... If you are eating the cheese cakes at 3 carbs each and 1/2 cup of berries (3 - 5 carbs depending on the kind) that is quite a bit for just breakfast.  I would back off on the sweets until you see the scale moving down.   Be sure to be careful to weigh or measure everything and keep track of those carbs....they can add up quick.   ;)   Hope this helps  :)

I agree with toosweet sandra, replace the cheesecakes and berries with a high protein zero carb breakfast. Your body will crank up to digest it, the protein will stay with you for a long time and you'll have carbs in the bank for the day. drop the carbs, drop the weight ;)

The FAT TO SKINNY Zero Sweetener works GREAT in all baking. It's now the only one we use for everything unless we need a "sprinkle" effect on top of a recipe for show, then we'll use a bit of Xylitol.

Have you posted your exact eating, Sandra? When I get desperate, I cut down to NO FRILLS. 1 serving of protein (like 3.5 oz) and 1/2 cup serving of vegetables per meal, measured and weighed. No extra goodies, nothing sweet, but some additional 0-1 carb if I get hungry (like an egg). It's pretty drastic, but it does seem to get things moving in the right direction. You have my total sympathy. I'll even join you on the no-frills stint if it will help. It would help me.

It's great that you are asking the questions, Sandra, because I suspect there is carb creep in other meals, too.  Sarah's suggestion to post your food diary on the Meal Plans thread is a good one.  You are forming habits that will carry on for a long time.  It's best to have them be the right habits.
