Inability to lose
« on: June 20, 2010, 02:09:59 PM »
I purchased Doug's book around 3 weeks ago and immediately implemented the recommended diet. I was consuming at least 3 to 4 hundred carbs a day replete with sugar.  Once I began the recommended eating plan, I have lowered my carb intake to less than 10 gms of carb a day.  After three weeks, I have lost only 5 pounds.  I am a 59 yr old male, 5' 10" tall, who now weighs 194 pounds.  My target weight is 175 but I don't understand why the plan is not working.  I am a delivery driver making 15 to 25 stops each shift with the resultant walking to residential and business entities at each stop which often includes several flights of stairs or long distances.  I am an avid golfer playing 2 to 3 times per week.  I have not begun any other exercise program.  I cook from the book's recipes at least four days per week and I love the food.  i am thoroughly convinced that eliminating sugar from my diet is the healthy way to live and I don't intend to abandon this new way of eating.  I just disappointed and confused as to why I am not losing weight more quickly.

Help; what is my problem?

Jonrwag,
That's almost 2 pounds a week. Not real bad some people lose slower than others. You sound like your active in the first place so your body is accustom to your working out and moving all the time. Cutting sugar is the best thing for you. You will get to your goal. Keep it up. Oh yea welcome to the site. Doug and Umpa will help you more and everyone else here can help also....

Because you are so active you may not be getting all the fuel you need. your body will hold onto fat stores in that case. try taking in 15 carbs a day.

jon:) i would have to think doug would ask " what are you eating" ? more often than not carbs "sneek" into folks diets, just because they are eating something that they had no idea was adding to their carb counts... but like phil says at least you're going in the right direction:)

Well there you have it Jon, the team got to you before I did :) every comment was right on, the only thing I see missing is portion sizes. Are you eating  quantity beyond your needs? For example, just because steak is 0 carbs doesn't mean you should eat a pound of it at a sitting.

Lets get an example of your typical days eating in writing so we all can take a look.

Well done gang :)

as i reread this thread,it saddens me:( this is what we see way too much of,people that just don't dedicate themselves to the FTS lifestyle, make 1 or 2 posts and just disappear:( oh its so easy to buy the book, read it, & wake up the next day and live it for a few days....then just give up :( this forum is a wonderful tool to keep you involved & motivated...... if for some reason the FTS plan isn't working for you.... its because you are doing something wrong, not because the plan doesn't work.... so buck up and come back here daily, participate, help yourself & others:) lets do this together people, strength in numbers!!!!!! that's what i am talking about:)

I know it's sad Gary, I just want to grab everyone up and hold on tight. The truth however is that SUGAR is a strong addiction and can keep a hard hold....people really need to have the "want to" if their going to succeed. Keep kickin butt Gary and lead the way by example!  8)

gonnagetthere I beat the eggs, then just spoon stirred it afterwards.
I got almond meal from the bulk food section of the supermarket here in Canada.  Most of the FTS people here on the forum are in the U.S., so they can help with advice re where to purchase stuff.
It was so good.  I had it for breakfast and made a pizza-type thingy for lunch!
Yumbo!

Mind you, I probably stink of garlic!
