Firehouse Subs
« on: January 02, 2011, 08:03:36 PM »
I went to help a friend move today and they took me out to lunch at Firehouse Subs, it is a sub shop almost like Subway.  Anyway, I figured I couldn't ask for just meat and cheese so I decided since I didn't have carbs for breakfast I would order a salad with turkey breast and cheese.  I only ate 1/2 the lettuce, 3 cucumbers, the turkey and cheese, and left off the green peppers, onions and tomatos.  I went online to see how many carbs the whole salad would be and was shocked to find that it was 19 carbs without the salad dressing >:(.  I only got oil and vinegar so I figure I had no carbs there.  Would it be okay if I went by the book and figure that I had a cup and a half of lettuce for 1.5 carbs, .5 carbs since there were only 3 small cucumber slices, and 2 carbs for the meat and cheese because I don't know exactly how many carbs they actually contained?  I would rather count 4 carbs then 19 ::)  Thanks all

Hi Ya~

I eat at FireHouse subs all the time. I love their salads, they are amazing. I get it with the one egg, lettuce, turkey breast but no tomatoes, carrots or onions. Also I skip the dressing and the crouton. The total carbs says 19 because of the tomatoes and croutons. As long as you skipped those two you are completely fine. I usually take four just for the heck of it.

Thanks so much SherriPie, I haven't eaten there in ages and when it was mentioned I kinda cringed because I knew I was going to be the oddball out, but after I checked the carbs counts on the subs I was jumping for joy that I didn't cheat.  Hubby did and was shocked at the carb count.  He went for a whole wheat sub with roast beef and cheese.  I think it was 55 carbs or something outrageous like that.  A couple of the subs had over 80 carbs.  Needless to say he will be jumping back on the wagon tomorrow and I am still making him weigh in for the first week just to prove that if he would stick with it, it will be worth it.  However, if he loses more than me, while he has been cheating the past 3 days, someone's in trouble LOL

YES that would not only be OK it would be accurate :) Sherri is correct;

The total carbs says 19 because of the tomatoes and croutons. As long as you skipped those two you are completely fine. I usually take four just for the heck of it.
