Does anyone watch their fat intake at all ?
« on: January 19, 2011, 02:02:53 PM »
I was just wondering if anyone watchs it do you try to stay as lean with the meats as possible ? I catch myself saying wow that has so much fat in it but 0 carbs .
Like a example of this is walmart premade burgers  they are 17 grams of fat/ 0 carbs  per pattie and it is a thin one after cooked it weighs 2 ounces . Or my smoke sausage that I buy 2oz is 14 grams fat /0 carbs .
If you do count what do you try to stay under ?

Jo,

If anyone does... Don't count fat (i.e. calories)!!!
It will make your F2S journey much more difficult.

It is a good idea to avoid excess fat where it makes sense (e.g. trimming most fat off a steak).
Too much of anything can be bad for you.
This is just a matter of common sense.
Can you imagine sitting down and eating 0 net carb 1/4 pound butter cubes for lunch?... UGGHH!  :o

I do somewhat Jo.  Probably from years of programming.  I most of the time eat boneless skinless chicken breasts instead of skin on and I cut the fat off beef & pork.  I buy lean ground beef or ground turkey.  That doesn't mean I never eat chicken with the skin on, I just don't eat it often.  I still eat sausage and don't look at the fat content.  I have tried to cut back on the heavy cream & butter, but I do still use them in moderation.  Instead I have been using SF almond milk and heart smart margarine, but that is for cholesterol purposes.

Hi ShihTzuMom1,  :)

Perhaps some "programming" from society may be a play.
But the way you describe handling fat in your food makes good sense.

Since the F2S lifestyle can be very high in fat, being aware of it and taking reasonable steps to not overdo it is a good thing.

In other words, if we happen to eat more fat, it's no reason to freak out or to be concerned.
But being mindful of what we put into our bodies is wise.

I've had a struggle changing the way I think. I've been geared to lowfat and I also have trouble looking at calorie content and fat.  This is working and anything that will get fat off without being such a hard battle is well worth trying.
2009 I started lowfat and low calorie and I exercized about 2 hours a day. I lost clear down to 295 and then gave up because I hit plateau and got so discouraged. I ended up quitting because I felt so deprived. I'm so much happier now and feel like this is something I can live with. I am just kind of winging it now because I don't have the book, but will be getting it soon.
Does anyone know if their cholesteral is high? Mine is already 240 and I don't want it to get higher.

Actually since eating the FTS way my cholesterol came down.  My good cholesterol (HDL) is great, my combined cholesterol is great, my ratio is great and my bad cholesterol (LDL) has come down a lot, but still higher than they like it to be for a diabetic, so the Dr. has put me on a very low dose of cholesterol medication.  I think others have had their cholesterol come down also.

My cholesterol was just above 200 when I started living the FTS life, and it's already down to 152.

Excerpt directly from FAT TO SKINNY Fast and Easy page 95;

"Most bacon, sausage, and ham are zero (or very low) in net carbs. Check the labels and beware of SUGAR-cured or SUGAR-coated products; they are loaded with carbs. I also still practice eating foods with the lowest possible FAT content to maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Buy leaner cuts and lower FAT content products as long as there is no added SUGAR. Enjoy bacon and eggs for breakfast as often as you wish. Help control cholesterol by substituting whole eggs with Egg Beaters, and replace pork bacon with Louis Rich turkey bacon."    ;)

You reminded me of turkey pastrami!!!
If you slice it into thin strips, put them in a pan with a little olive oil, and fry 'em for a couple of minutes, it tastes REALLY good!

As far a staying away from the scale darpar62, I suggest putting it somewhere very inconvenient (like a car trunk).
If it's tough to get to, you will have time to talk yourself out of using it.
