It could be that things are just settling in, but although I received 14 new member notice emails and 13 posting email notices,
I had 0 (zero) "Show unread posts since last visit" when there should have been 13 (assuming 1 email per post).

Perhaps after this visit, things will settle down.

Here's the SMF instruction manual statement on unread posts;

Viewing unread posts and replies
SMF has several options for users to view Unread Posts. Unread Posts are topics and replies that have not been viewed by the user. The most common way to view Unread Posts is through the links in the userbox.

•View unread since last visit – Selecting the Show Unread Posts since last visit option displays a list of the topics which have had new posts in them since the users last visit. The user has the ability to select to try all unread topics which will display any topic with Unread Posts, regardless of their last visit time.
•View unread replies to your posts – Selecting the Show new replies to your posts option displays a list of topics the user has participated in that have unread replies.

Users may also choose to view Unread Posts outside of the userbox.

•View Unread Posts by board - Selecting the New post indicator beside a board will display a list of topics with Unread Posts found inside the selected board.
•Recent posts on the board index - If enabled by the administrator, a list of recent posts will be displayed on the bottom of the board index. This is displayed by post, not by topic, so hot topics may dominate this section. Selecting the icon to the left of the recent posts will enable each post to be read from another screen.

Hello Doug,

This morning, I checked for unread posts in my "Show unread posts since last visit" userbox since I was logged on yesterday afternoon...
There were none (zero).
However, I did receive MANY email posting notices and 17 new member email notices.

When I checked "Show new replies to your posts" in my userbox, I found 6 (six) posts.
I will assume that this is correct.

In summary, the problem I was experiencing has inverted itself.
But that's OK. :)
As long as I'm getting an email for every post made and new member registration, I can work with that.

Thanks,
Tony

"Click here to try all unread topics." then they come up . Have you tried this ?

I've also been experimenting with "show new replies to your posts" We'll figure it out over time. :) I think it's operator error though...what to expect etc...do you guys log out each time you leave the forum? I think that kicks off the "since last vist"

No, I stay logged on.
However last week, I got involuntarily logged off a few times.

I also tried the "Click here to try all unread topics" and got the same results.

Like I said, as long as I'm getting emails when I should, I'm OK with the situation.
Although, it would be interesting to know why there is a discrepancy.

OK, Doug... I'll do it now as chores await me.

I'll let you know tomorrow what I see.

Thanks!

UPDATE -

I logged out yesterday afternoon and logged back in this morning.

I have 25 posting notification emails and 11 new member emails.
But none of them shows in my userbox "Show unread posts since last visit.".

There are 6 replies shown in "Show new replies to your posts.".
Not sure if this is accurate.
If they "disappear" after I've read the new postings, I'll assume this is OK.

I will not log out today so I don't have to re-enter my ID and password next visit.

I agree Umpa!

I don't think I'm missing any e-mail notices.
