Sugar Not
« on: March 20, 2011, 12:28:07 AM »
I saw SUGAR NOT on the Netrition site and noticed it says it has no sugar alcohols. Has anyone used this product and if so, does it not slow down weight loss like other sweetners do?

http://www4.netrition.com/dixie_sugar_not.html#NUTFACTS

It says "low glycemic fructose" and <1 carb.

I was curious if this makes people's weight loss slow down like other sugar alcohols do.

Hi Rena!  :)

I don't know either. Never tried it.

This item contains a form of fructose (fruit sugar).

Many sugar alcohols come from a form of a real sugar.
Since we are sensitive to sugar, I would treat it like any other sweetener... Use with caution!!!

I remember you mentioning in another post that you suspect your weight loss is slowing due to sugar alcohols (sweeteners). If this is the case, I would stay away from ALL sweeteners for a while and see what happens.

Thanks, Tony. Yeah, I'm trying to watch sugar alcohols, which is hard because I like 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning and then maybe a soda in the afternoon. I don't know why, but I've been way more hungry than normal lately. That's not helping either. :(

Hi Rena!  :)

If you are in fact feeling REAL hunger, you are not getting something your body needs.

Or, are you eating less than you were before, attempting to accelerate your weight loss?  Like skipping snacks?
If so, you may not be eating enough of the food(s) your body needs.

With my wife, when she'd have her TOM, she would be hungrier than normal.
She discovered that eating more red meat fixed that problem.

As far as the weight loss slowing down, it's a normal part of the process for many folks (me included).
If you're following all the FTS rules, be patient with your body.
It needs time to readjust to itself (in many ways) as it shrinks.
What you do today is what matters!

I thought it was period stuff, but that's come and go. I was way more hungry then, too, so I thought it would have stopped by now.

I'm not skimping on food right now -- did that recently and it backfired on me.  :P

I am, however, exercising MORE. Normally, I do about 10 minutes with hand weights and resistence bands, followed by walking 30 minutes on my TreadClimber. Recently, I've added an additional 30 minutes on a recumbent bike afterwards. Not sure if that can contribute to added hunger though.

I really don't know what to do -- other than just deal with feeling hungry. I've also been drinking way more water than I used to. None of this makes sense to me. LOL!

Rena  If you are doing without your coffee that could be it . When I tried to give it up I was hungry that was the only time I have really been hungry this whole time .
I think maybe it is a mind thing when I didnt have it I wanted to eat instead maybe it was the HC in the coffee filling me up I dont know just thought I would throw this out here  ;D

I wish it was this -- but sadly, that's the first thing I have in the morning. Gotta have my coffee! Still, I only drink 1-2 cups of it, but I do put heavy cream and syrup and/or sweetner in it.

I really don't know what this hunger thing is all about. This is new because I've not been this hungry before. It's not like I'm 8 and having a growth spurt.  :D

joagain -- I use one or the other. When I use the syrup I put in 1-2 teaspoons, depending on the size of the mug. I also use cream in mine, but not all the time.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you,i am having computer issues. This is a dixie diner product .Lo han is there sweetner of choice. It is not a sugar alcohol.Thats how they can make products without sugar alcohols. You can contact Bob over at Dixie Diner with your questions about the fructose. It may be fructose from low glycemic fruits(like berries).i have always found his carb countts to be 100% accurate. ;)

That's interesting Umpa!  :)

If they use fruit that is very low in fructose sugar (like berries), the carb counts should be very low (at worst) or zero (at best).

However, if my weight was stalled, I would try not to use any sweeteners for a while just to see how my body reacts.
What you do today is what matters!

Umpa -- thanks! I'll have to check into it sometime. Interesting, all the same.

Mouseissue -- I hear what you're saying. I'm going to cut down my sugar alcohols, although still have them in my morning coffee. Some habits are just too hard to break, especially the little ones that keep me sane like coffee. I'll see what happens. I think if I'm stalled, it could be because I've been eating more. Not necessarily carbs (I never go over 20), but calories. I was reading about having a bigger appetite with an increase of exercise and I'm pretty sure that's happening. The thing is, I must be eating just enough extra to keep myself where I'm at. I certainly don't want to cut back on my exercise routine because I'm really starting to enjoy it for the first time ever. :D
