Question about erythritol
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:03:29 PM »
I am really confused about sugar alcohols specifically erythritol.  The label on my erythritol says that it has 6 alcohol sugars per servings which is a tablespoon.  The label lists it as a carb but when I looked it up on line the information stated that you don't count sugar alcohols as carbs.  Can someone please explain to me if I count this as carbs or not?  Thanks!!!

Hi gabrielle!  :)

Erythritol is a polyol (sugar alcohol) that contains zero (0) net carbs.

And we don't count sugar alcohols in our carb counts.

HOWEVER... Be careful with them!!!
They are for occasional use.
Frequent use can stall weight loss.
And don't eat too much of them... Gas and diarrhea may ensue.

mouseissue-thank you so much for explaining that.  I only use one tsp in my coffee in the morning.  Any more than that I wouldn't feel very good.  Thanks again for your help!!!

Hi gabrielle!  :)

For future reference... If your weight loss stalls, that erythritol in your coffee "may" be the culprit.
Remember I said "occasional" use.

If you stall and exhaust all other possibilities, then you'll know what the problem probably is!
What you do today is what matters!

If I use a syrup for my coffee i don't use stevia. The syrups are very sweet. ;) I do like to use the flavored syrups for frostings too ;)
