I buy Shirtaki noodles at Publix and Whole Food - cheaper at Whole Food ($1.99 bag).    The smell is pretty darn bad, so 30 min. before I fix them, I rinse, rinse, rinse, then soak 20 min. in water, then rinse, rinse, rinse, and then I rub in garlic oil.  :)

Hi romarc! :)

Here's an easier way I just discovered to deal with the smell...

Rinse them under very warm water thoroughly.
Put some water in a saucepan and add some chicken (or beef) flavor bouillon and bring to a boil.
Put the noodles in and let them boil for a minute.
Drain and add to your favorite dish.
