Gumption
« on: July 31, 2011, 04:08:59 PM »
I hadn't heard this word in so long.  My dad used to say it when I was a kid like "Do you have any gumption?"  I just thought it was something he made up. ha ha  Well today our pastor used this word in his sermon.  Just wanted to share this because it relates to FTS too!   Definition:  "Gumption is the character to commit & complete."  He said the bridge between commit & complete is CONSISTENCY.   ;)

My thought for the day.....I want to be a person with GUMPTION!   ;D

Maddysmom,

It looks like to me you are already a person with gumption to be able to show that you have lost as much weight as you have already and are just a few pounds shy of halfway to your goal.   :D :D :D :D

I used your "gumption" yesterday at a wedding dinner.  It was hard.  Fried chicken, stew beef and rice, ham, green beans, mac and cheese, biscuits, wedding cake, sweet tea.  None of which are a wonderful combination for the FTS person.  To be nice I ate the ham, just the beef, and a bite of the green beans.  I also asked for water.  None of the other foods passed my lips.  Boy that "gumption" felt good LOL.
Look out Hawaii, I'm on my way!!

Way to go Suzylyn!!  I know you felt great for staying on course!  I remember when I made it through Thanksgiving & Christmas on FTS with no problems.  I felt amazing!  Oh, and thanks so much for the kind words!

You are most welcome.  Thank you too cause you are so right.  It feels good to look at the food I used to eat and know now that it is "poison" to my goal. LOL

The other day someone told me about the low carb pita at Walmart and told me where to find them.  They were "by the bakery goods on the back wall".  I said oh you mean you have to walk by all the "fat pills" to get to them (donuts, cookies, pies, etc.) LOL

I LOVE those low carb pitas, but our walmart has been sold out of them the last two weeks.  I think alot of folks have just discovered them lately, so it's hard to keep them in stock.  My favorite is to make philly cheese steaks with them.  Yum!

Any you are right Suz.... there wasn't much for us to eat at the wedding.  I pealed my chicken, ate my ham and green beans.... that was about it.   I kept thinking about all that sugar they had on my plate...LOL   :P

Hi suzlyn454! :)

Being new to this lifestyle, it can really challenge your "gumption" when you go to weddings, holiday gatherings, etc..

But the good news is, the longer you live this way, the easier it becomes to avoid those poisonous foods that are LOADED with sugar!
What you do today is what matters!
