Portion question..
« on: June 29, 2011, 09:42:29 PM »
Is it possible that I'm not eating ENOUGH and that's why I'm not losing weight very fast at all???  It's bee over two weeks, and I'm still only down about 7 pounds...I keep lingering at the same number day after day or right around it.  Here's a sample day of what I'm eating:

2 eggs and two pieces of turkey bacon for breakfast.

Usually not hungry at all at lunch, but around 2-3 I eat an oz of almonds or a carbmaster yogurt depending on if I walked on the treadmill (how hungry i am)

Dinner is usually either a burger, piece of chicken or steak or some kind of meat and a salad.  If I get major hungry during the day, I have zero carb pieces of deli chicken with mustard and cheese (no bread of course) OR I'll have a GG with peanut butter or a piece of cheese.  If I go out i'll pack a 2 carb protein bar or eat b/f I go....Sugar free jello occassionally or strawberries and land o lakes whip occassionally since the strawberries are 5 carbs!

I just don't see how I am not still DROPPING pounds.  I'm walking on my treadmill and generally more active than usual.  I've lost inches for sure, but, pounds, only 7 in two weeks.  Suggestions?  I am drinking water, not drowing in it, but at least 8 cups a day.

Are you writing down all the carbs your taking in? Also that protein bar you're eating, does it have sugar alcohols in it? You need to track your carbs and verify that you're under 20 every day. Also portion sizes are important. It could be sugar is sneaking in somewhere that you aren't aware of. Those carbs add up. Just your dinner alone seems pretty high carb to me. The peanut butter, strawberries, protein bar...that's a lot of carbs for one sitting.  Be mindful of everything that goes in your system from snacks to meals to medicines.  As Doug says, it's simple math...stay under 20 and lose!

I'm 100% 20 carbs or less.  The peanut butter/strawberries etc are just OCCASSIONAL...that's why I can't figure out why I'm not losing....wonder if I'm missing something.  The first week I dropped almost 7 pounds and now, it's a stand still---even tho I'm exercising!  I've got people under me on the diet who keep calling me for updates and I don't have any to give LOL!!!!!!   The only carbs I get day to day are USUALLY just a low carb tortilla and low carb yogurt and maybe a gg or berries, but I count every one of them and don't cheat! (except for that icecream last week)  I just feel like i'm missing something...i even cut down my sugar alcohols to like ONE a day if that!

If you're not losing than somewhere sugar is getting into your diet. First I would take all sugar alcohols out. You really shouldn't have them the first 30 days. Some people are more susceptible to sugar alcohols than others and it can cause you to stall out completely. Then I would pull back on everything I'm eating and just do simple foods. Things that you are absolutely sure about. There are hidden sugars in many things we eat. Sometimes the labels say one thing but when we realize we aren't losing we need to cut them out of our eating plan. There are several lunch meats that are full of sugar that we don't know until we stall out. Also, deli meat can be loaded with it so be sure to read the label before you buy. Too much diet soda with Splenda can stall you out too, so be mindful of that. My big suggestion would be to keep a post it note with you and write every little thing down that you eat. It will help you figure out what you're eating, how much, your carb amounts and what maybe causing you to stall. Re-read those labels and be careful of portion sizes. If you do that you're guaranteed to lose.

I agree with everyone - BUT... hello - 7# in 2 weeks?!?!  Is amazing!!  Don't downgrade it!  And if you're losing inches, don't lose heart!  The weight will start to move again, just keep doin what you're doin!  ;)

Eliruthy, you said, "Dinner is usually either a burger, piece of chicken or steak or some kind of meat and a salad."
What, specifically,is in your salad and what do you top it with? Sometimes, a ton of carbs can sneak in this way. I often have to stop and think about my salads because the  veggies are so fresh, tasty, and seemingly healthy, but I have to rethink it through my FTS filter.

It's usually just romaine lettuce, sometimes a little red onion or a sprinkle of cheddar cheese, some Ranch or Olive oil and Vinegar by Newmans Own.  Trust me, I'm counting i'm counting  ;D  I just am not losing!  Today I lost the .2 I have had for THREE days straight!!!  I had no yogurt yesterday, no diet soda, no icecream---the only thing I did it was a tiny bit of sugar free jello and a 2 carb protein bar while I was out.  I'm just going to keep going and see what happens b/c I can't afford to gain this weight BACK before the wedding!

Take your measurements. Most of the time when the scale doesn't drop, measurements do.If you are close to your period don't weigh yourself. No sugar alcohols or booze.Lotsa water. ;)
