Im back and heavier... but its ok
« on: July 01, 2011, 09:58:13 PM »
So we had a decent time but I must admit that as much as I love cruises they have an evil side to them... FOOD ALL THE TIME!!!!!   We actually had already booked a cruise for Thanksgiving weekend and I was lucky enough to cancel it while still on board the ship...So we are deciding to go to DC instead that will involve lots of walking and less eating.. ;)

I gained a whopping 8 lbs.. I would say that 2lbs are fluids since sodium is a huge spice to perserve foods..just a thought

Miss you all!!!!!! xoxoxoxo

Hey Alex!  I just posted on a separate thread before I saw this one!  I just saw that you are back!  So tell us about the food on the cruise.  Did they offer many low carb options?  I've never been on a REAL cruise.  A couple years ago while vacationing at Ft. Lauderdale, we did a day cruise to the Bahamas.  We had 3 meals on the ship, but at that time, I was eating everything in sight. lol  :-\

Alex, when planning your trip to DC, you may want to consider planning a side trip to Annapolis, Maryland. It's within a 30 minute drive of DC and it's where the United States Naval Acdemy is located. That's where my son is in his 3rd year of school there. It's a beautiful and historical location and they give tours.

Welcome Back Alex !! I would not worry about the weight too much most of it is probably water from all the junk food . Rena lost hers pretty fast when she got back .

We had fun.. We had a few issues with the kids (they can drive you crazy) but it was good.. Also, I have been on Royal Caribbean and I like their cruise better. Since Carnival is cheaper and is called the party ship, it tends to bring in a different crowd. My oldest daughter loves it just for those reasons.. She and Jr patrtied till late...

Food wise, well, I stuck to as much low carb as possible but the fact that there is a language barrier with the staff, its hard to get an answer.. I think what got me was that a couple of times I thought I was drinking coke zero and  I actually drank a regular coke but didnt realize it till my hubby told me.. Stuck to water after the 2nd time.. Im very sensitive to sugars and trust me, just looking at sugar I gain.. Their sugar free desserts are amazing, but I know that they still must be high carb.. Alot of their protein are in sauces and you just dont know what the sauces are made of.. The best dinner I had was the Lobster and Tiger shirmp with parmesan spinkled broccoli.. It was so good.. Anywho, it is what it is at this point..

The next cruise I plan will be on RC... Donna, I hope we can do the DC trip and if so, we will make it a point to go there..

Today is a new day and I am back to eating for sure low carb. ( Isay for sure since I will make my food and know what is in it)  BTW: I re-read F2Son the ship and it was great.. Put my mind back on track.. Enjoyed my reading for sure....xoxoxox

Yeah, like Jo said, I put on I think 7 pounds and lost it pretty quick. Of course, I haven't budged lately, but I haven't gained either. I blame peanut butter and Beanit Butter. I've been totally craving it lately, so that's the evil one keeping me the same. I ate it all so now there's no tempting me. Hahaha! :D

I'm glad you had fun, Alex!

Welcome home, Alex! :) :) :) :) :)

Sounds like you learned a lot about what to expect food-wise on a Carnival cruise.
Sauces are insidious for hiding lots of carbs. It's best to avoid them if at all possible.

Don't be too concerned about the 8 pound gain.
Just get back on the FTS bus and they will disappear before you know it! ;)

And that's one of the coolest things about this lifestyle... If you go on vacation and you eat more carbs than you had expected, when you get back home, just do what you were doing before you left... And the pounds will go away! ;D

This is the KEY to how our maintenance lifestyles will work.
We'll observe how our bodies respond to eating changes, and change our eating patterns accordingly.
What you do today is what matters!
