Mad in Missouri!!
« on: September 03, 2011, 12:59:03 PM »
Hi guys! As you all know, my husband and two teenagers, boys are all diabetic. The school nurse, sent home some papers, as far as that kind of stuff, and they wanted to know what type of changes do we want in our childrens lunch? Well, we said, no bread, pasta, or cereals. and the school nurse called us, and was in agreement, cause, she actually said, I know because it'll raise their carbs! I was in shock! Someone outside of Fattoskinny, actually knew about Carbs! Well, she said they could actually make the lunches for them, we thought it was a great idea, but she said she had to have a doctors permission. So we took the papers to our doctor, and she said she wants them to be able to make their own choises. Which I understand that, but one of our kids has IMH(intellectually Mentally Handicapped)and can't make his own choices! We're still waiting on her to call back! I'm so mad!

Time for a new doctor! Their your children not the doctors...the doctor is YOUR employee, tell the doc what you want and if refused....walk!

 >:(  I can sure relate the this....... I had a doctor tell me that about my kids to.  The problem being he did it right in front of my daughter!!   :o :o  I was really hoping for his help and support in convincing my daughter that she wasn't eating very healthy...... ( very high carb choices and no protein what so ever)  Needless to say it was very difficult to tell her anything after that about food " Because the doctor said....."  GRRRRRRRRRR  We never went back to him.  He tottally took any credibility away from me as a parent.... can you tell I could still bless the man out...LOL   Thank goodness that was only a phase with her but she still doesn't want to talk about heathey eating with me and could really eat better and benifit from FTS (sigh)       Bravo to the school nurse!!!  ;D

@Doug and Umpa, I totally agree!! On the other hand, the dr. she sees us looseing all this weight, and husband has even shown her the book. She wants us to do a seminar with "other adults"(who ARE ABLE to make their own decisions!!)on how to loose weight! I don't think so!!

Hi snobles! :)

Doctors can be tough to figure sometimes. But Doug is right... These are YOUR kids, NOT your doctor's.

Remind your doctor that this is not a question of "choices", but of well being.
If your doctor is not willing to sign such a note, find a doctor that understands that s/he is working for YOU!
What you do today is what matters!

Hi, I have to agree with Doug.  I don't know if you read my post the other day about my  year old son Joe starting the fts way of life.  Joe was that kid that would drink a 2 ltr. bottle of mountain due and eat a bag of chips and tell me an hour later that he was starving.  He was always sweating and smelled!  In just two days, Joey has stopped sweating and I think he smells OK.

I took him to our Doctor back in October and the Doc agreed that he needed to lose weight, but he wanted him to do all low fat foods.  Well they taste pretty bad, and Joe was lost in the first hour.  We are ending day two, and he's really happy.  We went to the store and got him foods that he not only can eat on the fts plan, but that he will eat.

I'm thinking packed lunches for the kids?  It won't be the easiest thing to do, but... boy will they feel better.

Good luck, as a mom I feel for you.
