Scales are evil
« on: December 08, 2011, 09:43:47 AM »
I am having scale problems again. I really think scales were put on earth to torment us. My scale started acting up three days ago. One day it says I'm down three pounds, the next day it said I was up SIX POUNDS and then today it said I lost 16 overnight. Now I would love to think that somehow the weight-lose fairy visited me overnight and miraculously took 16 unwanted pounds away, but we all know she only visits in summer. :) Anyway, it's pretty obvious my scale is on the fritz. So rather than buy a new one, I'm putting it away. Weighing everyday stresses me out! So I am just going to be true to my FTS lifestyle and weigh on the 23rd at my Mom's. Until then, I will just hope I'm losing and whatever I can get off before Christmas I will. At this point, with the scale acting so wonky I don't even know what I weigh! UGH UGH UGH!

Awh, I'm sorry about your scales Sherri.  :-\  I ordered my digital scales online from Walmart, but the brand name is "weight watchers".   They are always really consistent unless the battery is getting weak.  Could that be the issue with yours?

Don't weigh yourself too often!!!

Our weight naturally goes up and down (within hours or days) for a number of reasons.
It's perfectly normal. So don't stress over it.

Some people that understand this have no problem weighing every day.
But if it bugs you, don't do it.

One other thing, our bodies do their repair and maintenance work while we sleep.
It's during that time that actual weight loss will likely occur.

And as far as where the pounds go... I believe that as long as they are NOT on our bodies, they can go anywhere they please! :D

Yes they are evil!!  I try to just step on once a week but it makes me sad when I go to my doctors.  Funny how each of their scales show a different weight...... and I am always heavier than at home  :'( :'(

Here is my thoughts ..... This picture says it all  ;D ;D

SherriPie, does this mean you will be in BUF for Christmas?  Oh, and I have to tell you.  I am getting a Kindle for Christmas and the first book I am ordering will be your "SoulMate"!!  Can't wait to read it.

It's the numbers that are wicked. They just won't cooperate! I got the Taylor scales Tony recommended and have been watching my weight bounce around daily. When I step on the platform, it's like pulling the handle on a slot machine - the numbers go up and down and up and dow and finally settle - did I win today? Or is it like the 8-ball says "try again later"? ...

Hi Marty! :)

I forgot to mention in my last post that your scale number (going up and down) is doing what it's supposed to.
The numbers move up and down for a short time and then settle on your weight.
You'll know it's found your weight when the number flashes twice.

The reason this happens is the computer in it "senses" your movement on the scale.
It will take a number of readings and figure out what your weight should be while standing perfectly still.
Mine is accurate to within 0.2 pounds of the digital scale at my doc's office.

If it starts acting weird, a low battery would be the first thing to suspect.
That's assuming no one has dropped it or dropped a heavy object on it.

One last thing... Always weigh on a solid flat surface like linoleum.
Since the area I have mine is carpeted, I put a piece of 3/4" plywood under it.

Happy Weigh-Ins! ;D
Tony

Hi Marty! :)

Days are not enough time to judge if your weight is going up or down.
For most, it takes a week or more to show a trend.

But you're right about salt... It causes water retention.
And water weighs 2 pounds per quart! :o

Be careful of your salt (sodium) intake!
It can cause major problems with your arteries and your heart!
What you do today is what matters!
