Heavy whipping cream....who knew!!!!
« on: November 30, 2011, 07:37:56 AM »
While reading yesterday I found out something new (old actually) about heavy whipping cream!  Did ya'll know that if you continue to beat the cream past the whipped cream point that it turns into BUTTER???  OMG!  I had no idea this is how you make real butter.  You beat it until the cream separates from the liquid.  The solid is then butter and the liquid is butter milk!  (google it!)

Ok, I am a little grossed out because about once a week I whip up a little bowl of it with vanilla & xylitol and eat it with strawberries.  So is this like eating strawberries and butter?  ::)   Oh my.....dread to see my cholesterol level when I go for my 6 month check up next month!  ha ha

For Thanksgiving I whipped the heavy whipping cream (1 cup and 2 Tbl) with the Davinci SF Butter Rum syrup to make our cool whip for the pecan pie from the FTS bakery book.  Yummm.  It held in the frig for about 3 days then it gave up LOL!!  Didn't know about the "butter" tho, interesting!
Look out Hawaii, I'm on my way!!

Hi Jan! :)

I've eaten TONS of foods that are very high in fat but still managed to see my cholesterol numbers dramatically improve.

Don't let that whipped cream scare ya!
Like Marty said, "Nothing wrong with God's food"... That's what we eat in the FTS lifestyle!
What you do today is what matters!

Well ... I was eating WAY TOO MUCH heavy cream. It was seriously out of control, let's just say that. At my last eye doctor appointment, he noticed something in my eyes that usually points to high cholesterol. I haven't had mine checked, but with all the high fat foods I eat, it's probably high. I decided to stop buying cream for now. :(

I know I'm addicted to whipped cream but had no idea about heavy whipping cream turning into butter. Crazy!

Hi Alex    I use the heavy whipping cream for icing all the time.  It's pretty good.  Just use what ever flavor I want at the time, a little sweetener (or just use the flavored sweeteners) and the heavy whipping cream.  Mix with a mixer until stiff.  So good.   :D

I've been working with it to make some frozen treats but I'm not sure how well they will hold up in the freezer.    I might call them frozen mint clouds.  I have quite a bit that I bought at Christmas time that needs to be used up so I was trying to find things to make.  I have some pop sickle molds my mother used when I was a kid way back when (I won't tell how old they are  ;D)  I was thinking about making some homemade fudgesicles.  You can't beat a 0 carb frozen treat...LOL   These are pretty good though.

You are right Marty I didn't say did I...LOL  For this batch I used 2 cups of 0 carb heavy whipping cream, about 1/8 tsp of peppermint extract and enough sweetener to taste (I used Torani vanilla but you could use any you like in a liquid form)  Threw all in a mixing bowl and whipped it until it was stiff.  I dropped rounded spoonfuls on a parchment papper lined baking sheet, topped with crushed sugar free peppermint candy and put in the freezer.  These didn't last long enough to know how well they will hold up in a storage container ::)   :-[ LOL  But it seems to hold up pretty good for a couple of hours.

One thing I do know is that using the homemade kind holds up way better in the freezer than the stuff in the can...LOL  http://www.fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=1590.0  I'm thinking it's probably a higher fat content.

I was thinking about posting it in desserts but then I found this...LOL  http://www.fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=687.0  Great minds think alike  ;)

Frozen treats without needing a ice cream machine....easy peasy  ;D
