Getting Ready to Start FTS
« on: January 09, 2012, 07:58:53 PM »
Hi ~
I am getting ready to start FTS on Monday.  Right now I am in the ICU everyday with my brother (only 52 yrs old) who had emergency bypass surgery so I don't really have time until next week to get food/recipes/thoughts together.  Certainly a wake up call for me and hubbie seeing him go through this.  My husband is in for a surprise because he is coming along on this journey with me. I have already read the book and feel like I have a good idea of what to do.  I am a bit concerned about the difficulty of changing eating habits because that is not an easy thing to do for anyone.  It makes sense to me to keep carb intake below 20 g per day until the goal weight is reached.  I am looking forward to using the wisdom that all of you provide within the forum so THANK YOU for that!

Welcome Kim.  I am very sorry to hear about your brother.  I know how scary that can be and sending prayers that he recovers very soon.  It really isn't as hard to make the changes as you might think.  We are right here with you  ;D

First of all, praying that your brother has a great recovery, 2nd WELCOME!!!!  Its a great program and we have all become a big family.. we hear each others vents, jokes, suggestions, recipes but most important, SUPPORT.. I agree with Montuen, dont even tell him.. Just start cooking that way.. As humans we are so mentally conditioned.  Also, get the bakery book and actual complete cookbook.. Doug/Umpa are so great that after every 50 post, they w ll send you the ebooks... who does that? someone that truly cares..

I wish you the best!!!
Alex

Welcome Kim P! I am Umpa,Dougs wife if I can help you please ask.I have a column on the homepage called ask umpa where I can convert your favorite foods to fat to skinny friendly.Don't tell hubby until he starts to shrink :D Men lose very quickly. The reason fat to skinny works so well is replacements. Its a lifestyle change .We don't remove foods ,we replace them .That way when you have lost all the weight there are no foods to add back in to gain the weight back.Cycle broken.i hope all is well with your brother :)

Hello Kim and welcome to the forum.  I will say a prayer for your brother and we'll all be hoping for a great recovery.  SO glad to hear you will be joining us!  Oh, by the way, you should really go up to the search bar and type in "Divine Mission Statement" and read Doug's story.....it will really touch your heart.

You are going to LOVE the Fat to Skinny lifestyle and this forum too!  We are all here for you!  ;D

Welcome to the family, Kim! :) :) :) :) :) :)

I too am sending up prayers for your brother's speedy recovery.

I've read in low carb forums (including this one) that if you prepare low carb dishes for others and not tell them that the food is low carb, they don't notice the difference.

The FTS lifestyle is as easy as falling off a bicycle.
The hard part is the gear switch while going through "sugar detox".
For most folks, this lasts 10-14 days. But for some, only a few days, And others, hardly at all.

Once the habit of eating low carb is ingrained, you will not want to go back.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your FTS journey.

Tony

I know how you feel. I just came from NY where I sat in the ccu unit because my brother with cll went into sepic shock and was in a coma , He is out now but while I was there I had to eat out every night and around the hospital were bad eating places so I set my goal a bit later. I will pray for your brother and I did for mine and he listened. Good luck and we are starting together.

Hey Sweeties ~ sorry you are pulling hospital duty also but glad things are getting better.  My brother got a clot so he will have to be here until at least Saturday ~ ugghh!  I see you are also getting ready to start this.  We can do it!  Hopefully, next week I can get things together.  The good news is that just by making a few changes where I can based on what I am reading here I think I have already lost a little bit (my pants feel looser) ~ we shall see  :)  I had bacon & eggs this morning, coffee w/ cream & stevia.

Ya'll have a great day!!
Kim

Hi sweeties!
Nice to meet you. :) I'm Alicia and I just began this diet a little over a week ago and have lost a pound a day. The key is eating low-carb, of course, but also managing portion size and eating only when hungry and only till your hunger is satisfied. I was shocked to find out how little food I really NEEDED to feel full!
We can do this together!  ;D
