Weight training, exercise and carbs
« on: May 24, 2010, 10:34:15 AM »
Hi Everyone,

As a newbie here I was wondering if the carb factor needs to be tweeked if you are involved in weight training and more intense exercise. I currently work with a trainer who believes you need carbs if you are working out (weight training and cardio, fairly intense).

Thanks,

Mark

That is not correct.Building muscle requires protien.I drink protien shakes after i work out to help my muscles.I weight train and run on a treadmill and I keep my carb count low.If you need energy there  is better way to get it than carbs.

Hi Umpa,

Thank you for your response but I am not clear how I can best get energy doing intense exercise without carbs.
Thank for you expalnation as my trainer believes low carb is fine for the sedentary but not for serious workouts. Please set me straight on this.

Thanks so much,

Mark

You do not need carbs for energy .If you are overweight you have all the fuel you need on your body.If you eat carbs before you work out, you are just working out to burn those carbs. As your weight goes down your energy will go through the roof!Trust me on this.I have lost 75 pounds and i have more energy than most women half my age.i work out every other day, no excuses.

The whole point of Doug's program is to force your body to burn excess fat.

Hi Mark, I assume you excess fat to burn, if that's the case all the above answers are correct. If not let me know and I'll adjust my response
