Sizing and Clearance Sales - a rant
« on: October 07, 2012, 07:11:50 PM »
When I was struggling to find reasonably priced clothes to fit me there was almost nothing around, let alone clearance sales, etc.  Now that I have come down a few sizes it seems all the sale items are the ones I would have fit into but now are too BIG: but still the size I fit into now is not on the clearance racks.

Why is the universe doing this to me? It is just driving me crazy. I refuse to spend a lot of money to update my wardrobe because I know nothing is going to stop me getting smaller.  I would be happy with just a few items.  I check out the OP shops (thrift stores to you) but they are not exactly up to date with their fashion wear.

I am not fastidious, not even that fussy but know what I will be happy to wear.  Why am I being continuously bombarded with stuff I can no longer wear at great prices and can't find stuff that would fit my size now at great prices.  It all seems rather perverse.

At 33 pounds down you may want to look at fashions you wouldn't normally wear.Get out of your comfort zone ;) You are a beautiful woman! :)

I feel your pain!  No matter what size I wear the same thing seems to happen.  I finally settled on a low-end brand of jeans that I can get at Walmart.  At only $20 a pair, I didn't mind passing them on when they got too big.  I wasn't happy about buying good clothes for work so my co-workers go accustomed to seeing me in the same outfits week after week.

By the way, needing smaller clothes is worth celebrating!  Don't let the shopping experience blind you to the fact that you are doing MARVELOUS, DARLINK!

I hit the thrift shops!!! Especially while still losing, as I don't want to spend a ton on the "in between" clothes. :) It's hit or miss, of course, on finding what you will love and what will fit....but the hunt is kind of fun and it's great to find something you'll love in your size and at such an amazing price!

Hi Morgan! :)

Clearance sales are for items that have been sitting on store shelves too long.
Since most of Western society has an obesity problem, the larger sizes don't last.

Besides Walmart and thrift stores, I also shop the factory outlet stores.
I too don't see the sense in buying expensive clothes I'll soon shrink out of.

It's great to hear you have been shrinking out of your clothes!
Before long, you'll be at your goal size. :)

There is a site called retailmenot.com. I love this place. They have great coupons that you can use online that can give you 40-60% off sometimes. When I was losing I was buying from Avenue and Old Navy. This site saved me big bucks and I was able to get cute stuff, cheap. Might want to check it out. :)

What Alicia said! Thrift shopping is the way to go (in fact, I've bumped into her at a favorite thrifty stop ;) )... great stuff, most of the time in great shape, for next to nothing. I just found some jeans in my size (hemmed to my inseam, which is rare when you're 5' tall!), regulary $90 at Macy's, I paid $4 for them. Such a steal!
