Hi Bub597 and welcome to the forum!  I've never tried tastykakes, but I am curious.  Be sure to check out the recipe exchange section here.  There's some amazing treats you can make that are low carb and sugarfree!  Doug & Umpa can tell you how to make about anything you want!

I actually found
Peanut butter Tastykake Sugar Sensables at Walmart today, but we put them back because when we tried to figure out the Net Carbs we realized that they weren't the sugar free ones.  Then I checked on-line, and I can't figure out how they determine that the sugar free ones are only 4 net carbs.  Total carbs 13 G, Dietary fiber 4 G, Sugars O.  When you subtract 4 from 13 you get 9.  How does the 4 net carbs fit in?  Please help my husband and I are new at this and we are trying to stay within carbs, but sometimes you just need something else.  Although I have learned to love Sugar Free Jello with Reddi-wip.

Hi LindiLou   Welcome to the forum   :)   My best guess is that there are 5 g of sugar alcohols in this product, but I see that they simply left that off in the nutritional profile.  If that is the case then you would also subtract those too.  You could call the company to be sure though.  It's odd that they left that off.  Doug talks about the Tastykake's in his original book.   I haven't had the opportunity to try them though.  My Walmart never carries stuff like that  Haha

Welcome to the FTS family, LindiLou and your husband!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

The regulations the FDA uses in product labeling for carbs is VERY lax.
Most of the time, the labels are accurate.
However, we have found some out there that are blatantly incorrect.

The method I use to avoid such mislabeled foods is by reading the ingredients list.
The FDA rules on those are very strict. Labels must show ingredients in order by volume.

When you read a food label, I first look at the nutrition label carb counts.
If they look good, I then look at the ingredients list.
If ANY one (or more) of the first three ingredients is known to by high in carbs
(e.g. any sugars, wheat or rice flours, etc.), I DO NOT buy the product.

If you or your husband need any more help or other support, please don't hesitate to ask.
We are here to help one another reach and maintain our goals! :) :) :)
