Counting Carbs
« on: June 21, 2010, 06:10:02 AM »
I have read discussion on the site about counting carbs vs. not counting carbs.  How can I be sure that I don't go over 20 per day if I don't keep track?
If I go over, do I still lose weight?
Just not sure how I can do this without keeping track.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

hey catlady:) you definitely have to count your carbs and stay under 20 per day>>> don't feel obligated to use all 20 each and every day ;D they are referring to writing down EVERYTHING that passes thru their mouths in order to determine if maybe they are "missing" something that they should be counting:)

As you become more familiar with where hidden sugar lies you'll keep track in your head very easily simply by making good decisions. For example, last night I had smoked pork with collards. I also cooked some pork bacon crispy and some onions to go on top. I know the only sugar I ate was found in the onions...very negligible, 2 carbs total for the dinner. Lunch was tuna fish made with mayo and chopped jalapenos wrapped in lettuce wraps, no carbs there, breakfast was two eggs and cheese with two pieces of bran crisp bread....4 carbs total. beverages were all water or sugar free soda except for the 4 cups of coffee...another 4 carbs. The night finished off with Umpa's homemade strawberry ice cream and a squirt of reddi whip, another 3-4carbs total....so what was my total for the day?.... 14

I didn't count the carbs yesterday, this morning is the first time I added them up.....but.....I made all good choices yesterday so I knew I was safe. Does this make sense for you?

Yes, Doug, that helps.
This plan is a little trickier for me because I don't eat any meat, fish, or poultry.  But I can obviously make it work since I lost 6 pounds my first week.  When most "normal" people are filling up on steak, pork chops, hamburger, chicken, etc. I feel that it is harder for me to find filling foods since I don't eat those things.  But I am managing.

Just curious what you are eating if not meat, fish, poultry, etc.?

Have a great day!

Doug I just found this while reading through old posts.
How can your breakfast of 2 eggs and 2 crispbreads be 4 carbs in total?  If you had GG crispbread (which I think you always have), isn't that 4 for the crispbread and 2 for the eggs, totalling 6?

Or am I missing something here?

If you only eat the egg whites, that would be 0 carbs.  Maybe that is what Doug had!

I may stand corrected because Jo told me that in the U.S. you can get 0 carb eggs (Omega 3).
I went specifically to the grocery store today to find some, absolutely NONE with 0 carbs.
Its a conspiracy, Canada wants me to stay ...... chubby!

You're correct Linda, the GG Brancrisp changed their counts a year ago from 2 carbs 2 fiber, they used to be listed as a zero....As a side note Egg Beaters are egg whites.
