Please keep the Martinez family in your prayers. My friend's uncle (Rafael Martinez Jr) who was only 36 yrs "YOUNG" lost his life to a makeshift bomb in Afghanistan this past Thursday. He leaves behind a 10 month baby boy named after him (Rafael Martinez III) and a 6 yr old daughter named Evans..

The irony of this is that his father fought with him most of his life to not join the army and he respected his dad all this time until he turned 33 yrs old. He then decided he had to serve his country for he loves it so, only to be killed 3 yrs later, his father's fear all along.

Life is a gift and FREEDOM doesn't come without a price.  I have the ultimate respect for our soldiers and their families.

God Bless our troops and their families because without their sacrifice, we wouldn't have the freedom we have today.  I SALUTE YOU!!!!!

The appreciation and indebtedness I feel for Rafael's sacrifice as well as the sacrifice of his family cannot be put into words.

The freedoms as Americans that we all enjoy come from the sacrifice of such warrior patriots as Rafael.
May the Lord bless and keep them safe in His Everlasting Arms.

In 2008, my daughter left the Navy after 8 years of service.
Two of those years (two duty tours), she was stationed in Baghdad when things were very unstable and dangerous.

When she enlisted, we were not yet at war so I had no objections to her choice.
But when we went to war with Sadam Hussien, I got very nervous and feared for her safety.
To this day, I thank God for bringing her back home safe and sound.

Youre so right.. I have such a huge appreciation of our soldiers. Im so glad that your daughter made it back.. I guess I am a selfish person, but I hope and pray that none of my kids join the military.. My opinion was very different before 9/11 for the obvious reasons. 

Our soldiers are our guardian angels and the respect I have for them is so deep.. People take it for granted and its troublesome really..

Oh Alex, I'm so sorry.  Such a tragic loss no matter where anyone stands politically or religiously.  May God bless your broken hearts and hopefully the family can take some solice in knowing he died doing what he believed in and wanted to make a difference.

I am on that boat with you Doug..  I did not know the person, its a friend's Uncle, but you know it makes you reflect..

Knowing that his little ones will miss out on a father/dad is heartbreaking to me..

I cant imagine not having my hubby by my side.
