What motivates you to reach your natural weight?
« on: December 16, 2010, 01:01:31 PM »
I have found to reach my natural weight I had to have something that I call "A dagger in the heart" to keep me on track in my weakest moment. I loved my mother with all my heart but keeping herself healthy was not a priority, it was taking care of everyone else. I know in my heart my mother would have wanted me to be strong physically. So in my weak moment I do think of my mother and realize I can make a difference and make a healthy choice!

Hi Laurie, welcome to the forum :) What motivates me is the simple thought of sticking myself everyday with a needle! When the doc told me I had developed type 2 I faced the truth that I had done this to myself. I had eaten my way into needing insulin shots. Now that I`ve cured myself I never want to go back.

Hi Laurie, welcome to the forum.  What motivates me is the fact that I feel like a million bucks!!  I have Type 2 diabetes and taking pills for it and within the first 2 weeks of eating this way my blood sugar numbers came right down.  I feel healthy, energetic and am enjoying the compliments from others.  Shopping for new clothes has been fun and I smile when I look at myself in the mirror instead of avoiding mirrors.  I plan on living a long, healthy life and Doug's book has got me on the right track.  I have tried tons of diets and have never found anything that seemed to work other than taking a little weight off, only to put it back on again.  Fat to Skinny has been so easy.  There are no craves once you get sugar out of your life and between Doug's book and the forum there are tons of recipes to exchange for our favourite foods and ideas and encouragement from forum members to help along the way.  So welcome again, you have come to the right place and enjoy your journey to great health.

What motivates me is my son that got Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 10 . If he has /should eat healthy then so should I . I thought we were eating right going by ADA diet but Boy  was  I wrong. They suggest 150-250 carbs aday .
Thank God I  stumbled across Doug's FTS site when I was doing research on why Tylers sugar was up & down . This has helped me loose weightand feel so much better and it has helped Tyler to have much better control on his sugars ,not as many highs and lows . As Doug says you can cure Type 2 and control Type 1 with much less insulin and blood sugar swings . His last AIC was 6.1 which is VERY Good and we are using alot less insulin . Thanks agian Doug !!!!
 Oh and welcome Laurie!!

Welcome to our family, Laurie!  :) :) :)

We are all in this together and together we help each other reach our weight goals and live healthier lives.
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or would just like some support, we are here for you too!

My motivation started when my doctor told me I was morbidly obese and have metabolic syndrome (part of that is pre-Type 2 Diabetes) about 6 years ago.

He also said that I would have to stay on blood sugar, cholesterol, and high blood pressure meds the rest of my life unless some dramatic weight loss occurred before I got much older. Well that really fired me up to find a solution to my weight problem once and for all. I prayed for a solution that would be healthy, get my weight down, and keep it down. I looked at dozens of different "diets" but all of them had serious shortcomings. I thought maybe I'd be doomed to diabetes and an early grave.

Then one morning in late July 2010, I received an answer to prayer...
I was watching the 700 Club. And lo and behold, there was Doug showing the audience how much sugar we eat day in and day out and DO NOT EVEN KNOW IT!... THIS REALLY BLEW MY MIND! That day, I ordered his book and read it from cover to cover (at least 10 times now).

Doug's book and this program have been true blessings! They saved my life!!!
With them, I have found a new lifestyle of eating that is not boring and very satisfying.
Not to mention, I've lost 37 lbs. since August and am feeling better than I have in many years.

After being on the program for a couple of weeks, I saw my doctor for a routine checkup.
He drew blood and was so happy to tell me that ALL my numbers were looking very good.
See my report at: http://fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=1051.msg8401#msg8401 (at bottom of page).
At that time, I had only lost about 8 lbs.. But some of the benefits of this new lifestyle were showing in my blood panel.
I hope I caught this in time so I can quit taking meds (hopefully next year)... I have a feeling, I did!

this question has been asked before.....months ago....and my response is the same, ask yourself what makes you keep going down the path of fatattitude???? can you come up with 1 single reason to keep getting fatter? i mean a logical reason........ then ask yourself why you would want to lose weight and be happy? list the reasons side by side on a sheet of paper.... for me there is absolutely no comparison!!!!! get wise & join the club... happy fat people dont exist, even Santa would like to be skinny:) MeRrY ChRiStMaS To alL:)

Let me just start by saying I have an amazing family! About 6 years ago I fell and broke my ankle, leg and foot. From then on I have had nothing but troubles with it. From fusing my ankle to developing CRPS to the point where I couldn't walk. It totally sucked and I thought to myself that I am too young to be having these problems. Well I am glad to say I do walk now with a brace on my leg and foot, but every step hurts. Last March I was shopping thru Amazon and Doug's book was suggested to me. I read the description and some reviews and bought it. Once I got it I read it immediately from cover to cover. It was just what I was looking for. A way to loose way and not have to eat like a bird. I started April 1st and since have lost over 125 pounds. I just did not want to get old and be sick or a burden on my family. Since loosing the weigh my foot still hurts and walking is still a pain BUT it hurts WAY LESS than it use too.  I am able to get by with just advil or aleve and I don't have to take the heavy stuff like Hydracodone or Moraphine anymore. I feel a thousand times better...and if I hadn't of found FTS I would still be sad, hurting and miserable.

Thank god for FTS!

Thanks Umpa, it's hard to pass on all the fun things around to eat but in the long run it's so worth it. We are all struggling in one way or another...some of us you can just tell more than others. I am so very proud of all of us, what we have all accomplished this year!

We all ROCK!

For me, there are all sorts of health reasons, especially having a mother with diabetes and heart/stroke issues. But lately, I've been fitting into some clothes I never even got a chance to wear after I bought them. Some are even getting too big and I might never wear them. That feels better than anything I could possibly eat. :)

Hi Rena!  :)

This Christmas I received a bunch of smaller, much better fitting clothes from my family.
What was even better, was hearing how proud they were of my weight loss and how much better they say I'm looking.

That too feels better than any high-sugar food I could stuff into my mouth!
Not to mention how much better I'm feeling overall.

What you do today is what matters!
