Gary, I did the same with a 40 pound bag of dog food this weekend! It was an awesome realization!

Nice hearing from you Gary!
I hope all is well with you and your's.
I'm also happy to hear that you are still at your goal weight.

A good way to "keep the faith" in this lifestyle is to pick up objects (like bags of pet food, potatoes, etc.) and compare the heaviness we feel lifting them to the weight we've lost.

This really brings perspective to those conceptual objects (numbers on the scale) with reality.

I recently picked up a 20 lb. sack of potatoes at the store and was very encouraged.

I look forward to picking up 40 lb. bags of dog food for the experience!... It won't be long!

Gary, so glad to hear you are maintaining your goal weight.  That is so encouraging to the rest of us.  Love the dog food story, it really puts things into perspective.

Next time you look at the kibble check out the first ingredient. You'll find in most cases the first ingredient is cornmeal! I always buy dog food for the kids that has the first ingredient as turkey, chicken or lamb.

The breeder who sold us our miniature schnauzer (as an 8-week old pup) said to NOT feed him any dog food with cornmeal (or other grain) as the first or second ingredient.

She also said, coincidentally, to look for the first and second ingredients being turkey, chicken, soy, or lamb. She also indicated that most of those name brand expensive dog foods (heavy with grains) really are not very good for dogs (or anyone else for that matter).

The rule of thumb is be sure the first (preferably first two) ingredient(s) is/are protein based.

He's now five years old and as healthy as ever!
So it's always been, and will be low-carb for our pooch!

Good luck on the job Gary!!!  :) :) :) :) :)

Looking forward to Doug's feedback on this.
But according to my doctor, if you are otherwise healthy and test for ketosis after fasting for 12+ hours and show ketosis, it means you are burning body fat. Otherwise, it's the result of burning (and not storing) energy from your last meal.

I bought some Ketostix to test for ketosis.
I usually test first thing in the morning once a week be sure my body stays in fat burning (ketosis) mode.
According to doc, as long as even a few ketones are present, my body not storing any fat and is actively burning it.
What you do today is what matters!
