Beer Battered Fish

Carbquik Recipe: Beer Battered Fish

Servings: 4
Net Carbs Per Serving: 3g
Total Preparation Time: 6 - 8 minutes


Ingredients:

Fish:

1 pound fish fillets
4 tablespoons carbquik
1 cup carbquik
1/2 cup beer, Low Carb
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon salt
Canola oil for frying

Low Carb Tartar Sauce:

1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1/4 cup Sour Cream
3 tablespoons pickle relish, no sugar added





Instructions:

Fish:

-Heat oil (1 1/2 inches) in heavy saucepan or deep fryer to 350ºF. Lightly coat fish in the 4 tablespoons of carbquik.
-Mix remaining ingredients with hand beater or wire whisk until smooth. (If batter is too thick, stir in additional beer, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency.)
-Dip fish into batter, letting excess drip into bowl.(Being very careful not to break the batter using a very light touch on the fish, or use a fork to spear the fish)
-Fry fish about 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown; drain. Serve hot with Low Carb tartar sauce.

Low Carb Tartar Sauce:

Mix all ingredients together and chill

I tried this recipe tonight and the fish was phenomenal.  I didn't try the tartar sauce recipe so I am not sure about it but my husband loved it with ranch dressing.

Sounds good!

I've done this with crushed pork rinds instead of carbquik and the fish was absolutely phenomenal!
Good with most all fish especially catfish!!! YUMMY!!!  ;D ;D ;D

One thing you might add to your tartar sauce to make it authentic is 1 tsp. cream of tartar.

Hi Mouseissue,

I actually got the idea from one of your posts, but the hubby didn't want to use the crushed pork rinds...I think next time I will use them and just not tell him  ;D  The Carbquik was pretty good, but I found that if you are using a deep fryer and you like them crispy you have to keep them in 6 minutes.  I didn't make the tartar sauce, but I will try it next time.  The ranch dressing that we made the night before for dipping chicken wings was a really good substitute :)

Good idea!

It's MUCH cheaper and your hubby will never know the difference!  ;)

Beer and pork rinds were intended to be married with fried fish.
Ask any southern boy worth his salt!
