Very slow weight-loss?

  I am a little concerned about slow or no significant [url=http://www.fattoskinny.com/]weight loss[/url]. I've been closley monitoring carbs well under 20 per day and don't seem to be losing much. Don't have a scale yet but visually not much change. Been at it for little over 2 weeks. Is this unusual ? Any ideas? Thanks, Bruce

slow weight loss is normal in my world ,but in most here on the forum they have lost pretty fast .hopefully yours will speed up plus you maybe getting hidden sugars /carbs from some of your foods . Good Luck and just stick to it !

Bruce post your meal plan and the members will look it over and let you know if you are taking in hidden carbs.  You should weigh yourself to know where you have started.  If you don't have one, maybe a friend or relative does, or even your doctor's office.  You may not be able to tell by looks, but you probably have lost something.  If you are like some of us, we had our clothes stretched out so it took a while to get into a smaller size.  Just stay below the 20 net carbs and be careful reading labels.  I have used a food journal since I started and write everything down that goes in my mouth.  I have found that it helps me to be sure I don't go over.  Welcome to the forum and good luck with your Fat to Skinny journey.

I'm sure you've lost weight Bruce and once you step on a scale you'll see the loss (assuming you have a start weight) To see the loss visibly after only two weeks depends on how much you currently weigh. A person who loses 10 pounds off of a 250 pound frame won't see it but a person who loses 10 pounds off of a 170 pound frame will.

Stay the course and don't be in a hurry. This is not a race or a diet, it's a lifestyle change and it will not only make you lose weight it will keep the weight off for life.  ;)

At this forum, we are all here to help each other reach or goals and stay there.
And, you will find the some of the most helpful and kind people on the planet.

Since you don't own a scale, this could be a blessing for you.
It's very easy to become obsessed with scale readings rather than focusing on ways to become successful in this new lifestyle.
I've slipped into this "trap" before and I've seen it happen to others here time and again.

Just weighing yourself every so often at your doc's office, could be a major help to you.
If you choose to do this, be sure you are wearing exactly the same thing at each weigh in for the most accurate results.

Hi Bruce,


For getting good result for weight losing, you should do exercises regularly especially at morning and take vegetarian based diet foods.
Eat more raw vegetables especially broccoli, cucumber, radish, and drink grapefruit juice daily.
Green tea work very effectively for losing weight quickly.

Conrad I'm wondering have you read the Fat to Skinny book?   The grapefruit juice you are suggesting is 22.5 net carbs per 8 oz glass  :o   You will have drank your whole allotment of carbs in one glass.  

To stick with the FTS lifestyle you need to stay under 20 carbs  ;)

TooSweet is right!... Grapefruit juice is VERY high in net carbs (i.e. carbs that make FAT).

Note the high sugar (fructose) content.

If you haven't read Doug's book, I STRONGLY urge you to do so ASAP!!!

I too am having trouble. Today is my 10th day and I am up 1/10 of a pound from where i started. My blood sugars are down somewhat which is a good thing but I really want to see the scale go down. I know from many of your comments that should not be the main factor but I've been weighing myself daily since a teenager - not really able to avoid it. I have cut out nuts and olives and I am writing down what I eat - I know I am not getting hidden carbs because I personally make everything I am eating. I've even cut down vegies thinking maybe i'm eating too much carbs that way. One day last week i was actually down 7/10th of a pound but today I am up 8/10th for a net 1/10th gain. I have taken all the suggestions given me on these forums and really appreciate the support -  I am not having any sweet cravings and daily turn down goodie offerings by my fellow nurses (coworkers) and have had no problem doing so. My daily diet looks like, 2 or 3 boiled eggs for breakfast, a piece of chicken or meat for lunch with whatever leftover veggie from the night before (though i bring snacks to work such as meat roll ups cheese and avocado, i rarely eat them as i usually am not that hungry at this point but in case i get hungry don't want to have to go to the dreaded vending machine which holds no low carb options) Dinner is a piece of meat - usually something from Doug's recipe and a veggie.....any thoughts?

I'm sorry you are discouraged.  My first question is always about water intake.  Are you getting at least 64 ounces per day?

Keep at it.  You are already seeing a good result:  your lower blood sugar.

Jenna, take your measurements as you might see results that way even though you're not seeing anything on the scale. Are you getting any fats? Need to. I'm certainly not an expert on losing weight, but I REALLY want to see you succeed. My scale is stuck, but my body is changing and getting smaller anyway. I don't know why some people have great results and some just plod along. I'm trying to increase my water to way over 64 oz. per day and see if that changes anything. I lost quite fast at first, then stalled out and now am just stuck. Hang in there.

Please remember that by getting your blood sugar under control, you've likely saved your life from some serious (often lethal) diabetes health consequences.

Sarah's right!... No two of us are alike.
And so, none of us should measure our progress against others.
But we often lose size even when the scale is stuck.
This has been happening to me the last couple of months.
Also, cutting carbs to something less than 20 a day while eating more fat can restart scale movement.

Andrea's right, too!... If you don't drink enough water, you won't lose weight.
This is part of the body's survival mechanism during droughts and famines.
For the same reason, not eating enough and feeling hungry too much will respond in like fashion.

To cover your "bases", I recommend that you post your daily meal plans so we can eliminate the possibility of "carb creep" or something else.

You are talking about fluctuations .A 1/10 or 8/10 is not a pound gained or lost.It could be that you just ate or drank water.Take your measurements and hide your scale  for a couple of weeks or you are setting yourself up to fail. How do you feel??Lots of water and sleep Jenna.You can do this and we are gonna help you.If you need to post your food journal and we will help you. ;)

For the significant weight loss you should do exercises daily on regular basis.
You should do cardio exercises daily at morning time.
Along with these cardio exercises you should also take balanced and diet foods.
You should take green tea, grapefruit juice, and green vegetables salad daily for getting better results for the weight loss.

I replied to your other post and the same information is true here.  Grapefruit juice is very high in carbohydrates and is not a part of the FTS-low carb eating that we discuss on this forum.

Exercise is beneficial in many ways but is not required for weight loss, as many on this forum can atest to.
