The best ham salad
« on: February 08, 2011, 08:55:42 PM »
I purchased a spiral ham and was thinking of different ways to use it. One thing I did was put a bunch of it on the grill ,then put it in the food processor with Mayo...quick and simple and  the flavor from grilling made the BEST ham salad ! great to spread on GG crisps or roll in a tortilla ;)

Be careful to check the labels....many hams are coated with sugar or have sugar injected. It's always a challenge for us to find zero carb hams when we travel but we have a good local source in the Keys. I baked a ham last night and coated it with a mixture of Cayenne pepper, sugar free honey and allspice, it was delicious!

Spiral cut hams started with Honeybaked Hams.

Every one I've ever seen is coated with real honey and/or brown sugar PLUS injected with more sugar.
Even the brine used on the hams before their smoked has sugar.
All this SUGAR gives those hams that "sweet" taste.
The net carb counts are VERY high.

If you can find one that is not loaded with sugar, that's great.
But I would not count on finding one.
