hmmmm sorry to hear that...second opinion? Since I don't know what is wrong with your kidney's I'm not sure how eating no sugar would do anything bad to your kidneys unless he's talking about ketones.  How about just cut out sugar and bad white carbs like rice, potatoes, flour and eat the right portion sizes and low sugar fruits and desserts?  Consume healthy veggies, fish, chicken and drink lots of water.  How can that be bad for you?  I would think that would help your kidneys but I'm not a doctor.

Talk to Doug  before you give up.
Peace and blessings,

IzzeT

Hi Nita!  :)

Did your doctor take blood and run tests to see how your liver and kidneys are doing?

My doc was against low carb at first (as I too have had kidney issues involving surgery about 13 years ago).
Call me crazy, but that did not stop me.
I kept living the FTS lifestyle because I believed his opinion was based on simple opinion and not medical evidence.

When I saw him again (about 2 weeks after starting FTS), he again took blood and ran a few tests in his office.
He then said; "Whatever you're doing Tony, keep it up! You're numbers look GREAT!".

Unless you have some sort of kidney disease that would be aggravated by a very low carb regime, I think your doctor may be acting like mine did at first.

If he hasn't already, I'd ask for a full blood panel (i.e. tests) to see how your system is doing on FTS BEFORE you give up on it.
After the tests, you and your doctor will be able to make an INFORMED decision about your eating pattern.

I agree with what every one else has said Nitason1, you have done so well so far.  I don't understand how carb reduction can affect your kidneys, but then again, I'm not a medical professional.

What's the specific issue with your kidneys? If you have kidney disease I'm not surprised that the doctor is warning you about a low carb eating plan. Over the years there have been many controversial positions taken by the medical community on this issue. The truth is however that I have not been able to find even one credible study by a credible group that ties low carb diets to kidney problems. Many doctors go with the flow to keep themselves under the malpractice radar but they are only as good as they study. Here's what I would do;

1- ask your doctor exactly which foods he's concerned about. If he says "red meat" for example you can always limit yourself to red meat filling the protein gaps with poultry, fish and soy.
2- ask your doctor exactly what the foods he's concerned about actually do to your kidneys and report back so it can be researched.
3- do some web research yourself avoiding the info available from non credible sources

Finally if he simply tells you that a lowcarb diet isn't good for you with specific reasoning personal to your individual situation which can be backed up with science, fire him and find another doctor or at the very least go see a new doctor for another opinion. I understand that you trust him but that doesn't make him right. If you choose to see another doctor find the best kidney specialist you can and choose that doctor.

By the way....how are you feeling these days  ;)
