MommaB's Chili
« on: March 04, 2011, 12:23:08 PM »
This is the fts friendly version of my chili! I have 6 in my family so I make a BIG crockpot of chili...you can half it or make it all and freeze the leftovers for a fast meal later! It makes roughly 12 servings with 46 net carbs in the entire recipe and my kids usually have seconds!!!  8)

Ingredients

2 lbs. ground beef (0 carbs)
2 T. garlic (minced) (6 carbs)
2 jars (14oz.) Pace Mild Picante' Sauce (28 carbs)
3 cans black soy beans (10.5 carbs)
1 tsp. dried basil
2 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. chili powder (more if you like it spicy)
1 1/2 cups chicken broth (1.5 carbs)
1 cup water

Brown ground beef with the garlic (drain). Place in crock pot
add 2 jars of picante' sauce
drain and rinse the cans of black soy beans and add them to the crock pot
Add all the other ingredients and stir well.

Cook on low for 2 or more hours...serve with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream!!
My family loves this chili!!!   :o   ;D

Sounds great!

I'm a big crock-pot person and used to make it that way a lot, but recently my husband has been making a version from one of his cookbooks. It's really good. He loves it because there are no beans. LOL!

Thats a huge serving! My experience with kids is if you don't tell  them they are eating black soy beans they don't know! :D
I never thought of using picante in my chili base, I use low carb marinara.I will try it though ;)Thanks MommaB

hahahaha, Umpa, I have 3 boys...they kinda eat me out of house and home...they absolutely loved this recipe...I only had 4 small servings left for leftovers!!!!  I couldn't find low carb marinara where I live and I always use salsa, but picante has fewer carbs!!!   ;D

MommaB, for some reason, the small jars of pizza sauce that Walmart has in the section next to the spaghetti sauce have less carbs than any other tomato sauces I've found here.

When I make chilli, I just eat it! LOL

I love it with sour cream and cheese...the creamier the better!

I use canned hot dog chili on my hot dogs. It has 2 carbs per serving.
