Newbie Shout
« on: April 25, 2010, 05:18:22 PM »
I was browsing the Diet and Cook Book aisles of Borders and was drawn to Fat to Skinny by the LARGE print! After reading it from cover to cover in one sitting, I realized this was the lifestyle for me. I discovered after reading the book,  I was consuming WAY TOO MANY Carbs! So I started this plan on April 5th and in these 3 weeks I've lost 10 lbs. It doesn't sound like much to the guys, but for me this was a real breakthrough! I'm now boxing all my diet and cookbooks and donating them to Goodwill. I have at least another 25lbs to go to reach my goal weight. This way of eating is a challenge for me because I'm a vegetarian who eats only fish. But, I'm finding creative ways to get the protein I need and hope to tap into some of the recipes on this site...Stay tuned!

My mother in law has listened to me rattle on and on about what I'm doing and not doing (this new lifestyle) and she purchased the book. She just emailed me and said, "2 pounds in 2 days!" She is very encouraged. By the way, Doug, she emailed you to ask a question a couple weeks ago. She and I have the same name: Donna Owens. Isn't that weird!?!?!?

Well, I just got off the phone with our book store and the book is back in stock.  They have placed one aside for me.  I will be picking it up on my lunch break tomorrow.  I am so looking forward to picking it up.   :)

Hi.  After reading the book I have learned so much.  I now know what I was eating would never have worked for me.  I am a sugar-aholic.  I didn't think I was because I don't really care for sweets regularly.  But I do love my breads.  My banana a day is now gone and so is the fruit bowl.  I also realize that my portions were way out of whack.  I am going to have to make alot of changes.  Thank you Doug for writing your experience, and for taking the time to do it.  This is such a wonderful book.

Cathy, your "before" description sounds a lot like me. I thought I was being healthy by having a banana and yogurt every day! OMG, there was TONS of sugar in both of them. I have found a yogurt made by Dannon that is "carb and sugar friendly" and I have that every day now. BUT, no banana!

Owensmath, I loved my yogurt.  I finally found one I could have and then I read the book.  Thank you for suggesting Dannon but I just check the ingredients.  I can't have that due to allergies.  I found out last year that corn and soy are out of my life.  That alone is so hard.  Now, I must watch the carb, there was 13 in the one I found without corn or soy.  Wondering if I could save a carb here and there then treat myself. ?

My opinion, a small cup of yogurt simply is'nt worth 13 carbs...then again I don't love yogurt  :)
